What is attractive about PAM?

I'm drawn to cushion case watches in general, then add in the general overall simplicity with a touch of industrial design (not sure that's the right word) and dimensions just nails it.

Also, something about Panerais that changing straps has a huge effect on the look. Moreso than with a lot of other watches, at least to me.

I think everyone agrees on the strap changing the look thing. The reason for that to me is because the watch itself is so simple, it's kind of like a blank canvas for the strap to work with.

Great way to describe it!

precisely

take the same case even the simplest 000

put 2 different straps on it and you cannot possibly say it's the SAME watch. Endless combinations really

Pam is a beautiful, mostly simple, that´s why it´s so nice, watch. Changing straps makes them unique, even more, the strap makes the watch and emphasises it.

Well, I think I changed my mind and I'm officially in the process to acquire a PAM372! Gonna change the strap for the highly popular old vintage brown bakeka strap!

You will enjoy it a lot. Take a look at bosphorus straps too. They are tops in the vintage strap category. Thick but comfortable and finished with raw edges.

Yeah I'd be interested in beige-yellowish strap like yours, I'll def take a look. Most suppliers offer straps or straps+buckle, what would you suggest?

Take a look at bosphorus Casablanca and Egypt lines... They are a beige / light tan and the distressed vintage fading is super nice looking

For after market straps I'd recommend getting sewn in gpf style buckles. Its how the original panerais in 1930-1950 were worn and gives that vintage look.

for me what's attractive is that you don't see it on every wrist.................
I live in NYC aka "Canal Street" where you cant walk down a city block without seeing a Rolex, Omega, or TAG rep on a wrist.

I get nothing but compliments when I wear my 212 or my Firenze, if I had a DSSD it would immediately be considered a Canal Street knockoff

Thanks for the link! I almost PM'ed you because I couldn't find them in our TDs list of straps and accessories
No problem. The trcky part is finding the right fit. I have a 7 inch wrist and started with 130-80. It fit well but the tail end was a little short due to the strap thickness.

Second order I got 140-80 which had a longer tail but the fit was a little off. Either too tight or too loose depending on the hole used. The holes are punched at a fixed distance from the lug end, so the 140 holes were differently spaced than the 130 holes.

Third time I bought a 135-85 which fits and looks perfect to me ( the one pictured above).

The extra 5mm length on the buckle side lets me reach the desired strap hole comfortably.

All the straps are hand made depending on what leathers he has available. So if you don't see something you like now just check back in a month or send him an email.

My two favorite straps are no longer listed there. The vachetta posted above and this vintage caramela on my 422.

I have been buying reps for 10 years, I never liked PAM's with the one exception of the Ferrari lineup, of which I own 2 (california and flyback) those are some of the most beautiful watches I ever had. But aside from that they do look overly simple, however this aplies for other expensive brands too, think Omega Deville or Rolex Cellini, simple -yet expensive- watches.

IMHO other not so expensive brads are just as tough, reliable and way nicer. But this is a subjective matter.

I recently bought here a 312 and it looks awesome in real life. Same goes to me for AP, their dials are great but I hate their octagon cases.
Hublots are very strange to me too.

But just to prove the point, I LOVE the Bell ans Ross BR01 of which I have had several, and nothing is simpler to the eye as a BR01.

So I think a matter of personal taste, and maybe what certain brands stand for.

Hi All,
I've had just about all models of reps over the years (this was a good question by the way) and the only reason I bought my 111 rep was one of curiosity - always thought the pam's looked a little 'magoo'.

I still have several boxes of reps - Rolies, Omegas, AP's, Cartiers etc etc etc, however when I don my basic 111 it really does get noticed and I have had so many compliments when worn - it is super to wear, can see time so easy, enjoy winding it up, tough as old boots, inexpensive, like a torch at night, comfortable and above all, reliable. It gets a lot of wrist time and I have two straps for it, the one on it in the photo and the soft rubber 'panacine' one. Two differing looks with one watch,,,,, excellent watch.

Recommended.

Regards,

triker.
