Yeah, if you have existing lenses then that would make sense. Since I only had screw mount lenses for my ancient Mamiya MSX500 that was irrelevant! I was leaning hard toward the Nikon but the thing that tipped my decision to the Pentax was that it had image stabilization/shake reduction built into the body whereas the Nikon was in the lens tieing you more firmly to their line of DSLR lenses...

Oh, and often "refurbed" doesn't necessarily mean it has went back to the OEM for refurb, could be some geek with a screwdriver in his garage...

good point jmb.

I sent an email to the adorama staff and they said they have a 14 day return policy for a full refund. (No restocking fee on refurbished equiptment)
So basically I can get it use it for a few days and if theirs a prob send it back - by day 10 of using it I can bring it to a shop and have them look it over and see what they thing .. if all checks out then keep it - if not sell it...

Now the down side... apparently if you have it shipped to NY theirs tax involved.
tax on $550 = $45 !

dammit ...

Be very careful buying cameras on ebay. I have two friends that got scammed.

Buydig.com has the XSI for $608

http://www.buydig.com/shop/product.aspx?sku=CNDRXSIK1855

I've bought about 6 cameras through this place. It and B&H are the only two only places I will buy from. No worries about gray market, or having them try to sell you overpriced upgrades. Consider them a "trusted seller" as far as Cameras go. There are more scam camera sites than there are scam watch sites so beware!

Very true !
I had been on and off looking at dslr's with the intention of one day buying one ..
but wasn't till lately that I was intensively searching ebay every day ..

thx god for the iphone and the ebay app :)

That being said - I flagged at least 6 sales for ebay to investigate (ppl selling refurbished items as new)

Fingers crossed with this one - the guy said I can register the camera and make sure everything is fine with it - if it doesn't check out I have 10 days to return it to him w/ no fee - but I do have to pay for the shipping back to him.

I figured that was a fair thing on his part to give me 10 days to make sure it all checks out.

Well see what happens .. hopefully it was a steal.

BTW - good website :)
I'd been looking at B&H and adorama.
- You know almost everywhere I've looked the silver bodied xsi = cheaper by $10-20 .. ppl just like the look of the black one more I guess (the one I got coincidentally is black, but I wouldnt have minded either colour) - The buydig website has the silver for $40 more then the black - same kit and all.
I thought that was interesting !

:)

I had a silver 300D and the silver wore off (it's just paint). It's black underneath. If you are like me the black is the way to go as it does not show the wear nearly as much as the silver bodies do. I really do bang my stuff around. I use it, a lot and I use it outdoors where it is subject to dirt and the elements. That's the main reason I switched to the better equip. The better stuff is metal and sealed so it keeps the crap out of the camera. The best feature of my 40D is the automatic sensor cleaning. I got so tired of continually cleaning the sensor in my 20D it drove me bonkers. I can't tell you how many great pics were ruined by dust on the sensor.

Good luck with your new toy and start saving for lenses!

then its def a good thing I got the black body one - I like to go geo caching.. / rock climbing for one.

and 2 I travel to remote parts of the world where.. er its dirty to say the least.
:)

The XSi has an auto sensor cleaning .. thinggy amabo .. which might be the same as thing thing you have on your 40d .. ?

(see how much I know about cameras...)

I'm going to invest in a good book... or dvd to watch
:)

Hey mate,

hmm I haven't heard of Edemwatch before..
are they a trusted dealer on RWI ?

(also might help to ask a mod to move your post to an area like flame free zone)
so we can help you out better there.

- as of right now you just posted in a thread about DSLR cameras.

Not sure how much help your going to get about your cards mate :)

Cool, hope you enjoy it. After using a P&S camera exclusively for the past 10 or so years I am having to start all over now that I'm back on an SLR and I still haven't even begun to get the hang of this macro-soom lens!
