What have you done with your gens since collecting reps?

I find myself being drawn to this board more and more. Still love my gens, but can't get over the fact that I could sell two and have a wonderful rep collection. Base zero and sub no date = 10-15 "superreps?!" What have you done with your gens?

Collecting reps has made me appreciate my gens even more.

If you sell that gen sub no-date, let me know.

My bet is that if you sell those gens, you'll regret it. I could be wrong, though.

If I really REALLY like the Rep I would probably go purchase the Gen unless the Rep takes Gen parts like my SMP. Also, I can't see paying more than 3000.00 for a watch. That's just me.

I have held onto my gen's because I would regret selling them.

I could not agree with hooligan more. I had spent years working to aquire a couple of gens, but now being in to reps I just appreciate my gens even more. I know I would regret parting with any of the gens. This hobby has not dulled my desire for gen watches it has just allowed me to funnel money into other interests.

I sold a gen Omega SMP that I got from my ex-wife and that is essentially what started my rep hobby. The watch was very nice, but I've grown fond of larger watches. I still have a full gold Rolex President that I got from my grandfather sitting in the safety deposit box. I'm 40 and would NEVER wear it. Doesn't fit my lifestyle of working out, going to concert festivals, and playing with my daughter in the park.

Reps are the way to go for me. I have the money for moderately priced gens (Sinn, Omega, base Pams, Oris) but when the opportunity arises to buy one I always say, "it will get wrist time in the rotation, but it's not worth it"

I've dumped all my gens and put the money into other hobbies. I think if I had a son to pass a nice gen on to I would have kept at least one. Now I let my watch ocd lead me to what ever rep tickles my fancy for the months ahead.

I have sold a GMT II to finance my rep collection. Instead of having one nice watch I have now over 30 good ones. I do not own cheap reps, the cheapest is around $250 ..... all my PAMs ( 9 ) are modded.
I do not miss my GMT II, I have a pepsi and a black one now which are resting in the watch box.

The only gen I have left is my Sea Dweller and I sold my gen Planet Ocean to pay off my credit card. Unfortunately, my CC has gone back up because of my rep addiction. Now I am slimming down my rep collection to pay off my CC balance again. It is a never cycle. My gen Sea Dweller will never be sold but I do have an eye for the gen SS Anniv. GMT 2 and the Sinn Black U1. If they can accurately rep the ceramic bezel GMT, I will pass on the gen one...

I still appreciate the quality of the gens, but they see very limited wrist time.

I have 2 gens, a no-date Sub and two-tone Datejust dress watch. I haven't worn either since I started collecting reps just over 2 years ago. I've thought about selling them, but can't quite get myself to pull the trigger though I doubt I will ever wear either again. I just like my high-end reps better.

Casey,

I purchased a Gen to remind me of someone special. Just as your Rolex reminds you of your grandfather, I purchased my Tag to remind me of my grandmother. My wife and I will be celibrating 20 years of marriage Dec. 2008 and she will get a ring from me and I hope to get a watch from her.

PS: My daughter just started college, the time fly's so fast, cherish it buddy! :D

I also couldn't agree more. Reps allow variety, and an opportunity to see if I really want the gen. Most of the more "serious" gens I own are truly one of a kind...there is no replacing them at all, let alone with a rep.

For me the reps could never replace a gen. Reps are for fun and playing with but its just not the same thing. I wouldn't recommend selling gens to purchase reps thats crazy man.

heh....that someone is myself!

I buy the rep til it annoys me (due to flaws etc) and then I save for the gen.

I appreciate all my gens and I have regretted selling gens in the past also.

If I can get a satisfactory rep, I won't buy the gen. I pretty much sold all the gens because like many said I can own so many more reps for the price of one gen. But I plan on buying back a Explorer II because nobody can rep that movement. That's basically my philosephy, unless I really really want the watch and there's no satisfactory rep, I won't buy the gen.

Gen has its own merits that NONE of the replicas can give (even fully modified one). So... to each of his own, owning a genuine watch is another matter.
