Re: Porsche Turbo or not

for me if the key is on the left side of the steering wheel it has to be a 911 twin turbo or nothing at all. it's what they do, it's what porsche is about. they have straide along way from what they do trying to sell a few thousand trucks and redesigned, modernized 914's.

My hard-core Porsche would be a non-turbo 911 GT3 RS (997, ie latest 911). Not the Carrerra GT, again, does not conform to classic purity.

I think you'll find that around the Nordschleife the GT3 will exceed a Turbo. Don't get me wrong: a Turbo is effinf great, but it also did come after the non-hyper aspirated 911s in the history of this classic.. and my all-time classic Porsche would be a non-turbo RS from the 1970s.

This RS is almost as powerful as the 997 Turbo - but this 911 is lighter, revs to 8,400 rpm, with a harder, yet more agile, suspension set-up -- more focused on extracting performance and transmitting it to the track than even a Turbo :

agreed, but they don't blow fire out the back 5 feet and they don't wine like twin turbo's, not to mention the road lit up red from the tubo's at night. seeing one of those in a 24 hour event is a site to behold. you have to add the coolness factor.

Glad to see I'm not the only one still stuck ridin his bike lol.

RS Focus/Focus ST (whichever you prefer lol) at the moment, bout to buy an S3 though.

I would like to add that anything made in the USA does not count as a car as the automotive industry is laughable lol. With the possible and I mean possible exception of the 1967 Shelby GT500.

Anything that is dehydrated enough to swallow so much gas needs put down lol.

some more bimmers!

-

@pelotudo : very sharp E34, which donk? I've been wondering whether to 'black' my own E39 5er, as it already has 'Shadowline' trim.

@thehorse - I've always liked this colour.

Edge mate, even the best mag, "Car", a UK pub, has recgonized the illicit sin and joy of driving, variously, the:

* 'Vette Z06 , best perf. supercar 'bargain' around - 200 mph for < USD 60k ; and also great track drive
* Mustang Shelby GT (500 hp)
* and even the V10 Viper - see "Car" issue, re best road racing series ever, "Can-Am series" (see "Car" issue Nov 2006), with the writers' increasingly fond regard for this beast

Also, a recent study shows that in total energy use the supposed 'clean' Prius is less enviromentally friendly than a Jeep 4x4, see "Car", Dec 2006. Issues are total energy-use of manufacture, durability, recyclability (Prius is poor on this front), other externalities, e.g. the batteries.

Virtue has to be found in total energy use & total externalities - not just the obvious MPG & size dimensions.

Right now I'll take a diesel Bimmer, for e.g, over a supposedly virtuous Prius - on all fronts.

The business ride-smooth and quiet-I love this car

The dog car-fun to drive if you don't mind oil leaks and strange electrical gremlins.

Resize%20of%20Disco.jpg

The little lady's birthday present-I drive it every once in a while. Mostly to get it washed. Argh!

BenzWagon.jpg

That is funny. I experienced the Gremlins with my 2000 SE but so far none with my 2006 HSE Sport. Kinda Ironic I just bought my wife a C230 Kompressor. She complained about the Rover, so now I am driving her's to work almost daily. MY 2000 SE would put some weird electrical messages 'gearbox fault' but it would be in German. Bonnet up, when the hood was closed. Sounds like you have experienced the same things.

Yep, it hasn't done anything really bad but strange messages, dash lights dimming and a bad sunroof keep me on my toes. I do think the English designed a great anti-corrosion system. Somehow they have managed to get all the drivetrain components to automatically coat themselves with oil. It is really ingenious.

Otherwise I really enjoy it.

The Mercedes is too new to report on.

The Lexus is like money in the bank.
