Initially, I couldn't find the f*cking original recording anywhere. Come to find out Ella Fitzgerald WAS NOT Louis Armstrong's foil in this one; it's Velma Middleton. I've got this on a mixed CD and assumed it was Ella. Consider it "fixed".

Didn't mind the "re-grooved" version though. It was fun, or was intended to be.

I don't really care for "classic rock" myself. As such, I don't say that when those of us who do decide to share their penchant for it. Jesus... :frustrating:

Maybe I'm being a bit sensitive. To each his own.

Fantastic G...We all have diverse taste. I listen to almost everything posted here with an open mind. Doesn't mean I like everything lol...But I am open for sure. Thank you for posting the great Ella & Satchmo.

This is one of my all time favorites. Rediscovered it last week after nearly 20 years. Had a copy on cassette back when I used to manage the bar in a fine dining establishment in Portland, OR. Someone "liberated" it from said bar and over the years it was all but forgotten.

The Genius After Hours

Taken from the same three sessions as The Great Ray Charles but not duplicating any of the performances, this set casts Charles as a jazz-oriented pianist in an instrumental setting. Brother Charles has five numbers with a trio (three songs have Oscar Pettiford on bass) and jams on three other tunes ("Hornful Soul," "Ain't Misbehavin'," and "Joy Ride") with a septet arranged by Quincy Jones; solo space is given to David "Fathead" Newman on tenor and alto and trumpeter Joseph Bridgewater. Fine music -- definitely a change of pace for Ray Charles.

This is the album in it's entirety. If you have iTunes, these files are formatted for that. The idea was to gift this to those who had an interest. Apologies for any extra work I may be creating for anyone who takes me up on it.
