Western Union "ERROR: Sender may be subject to scam"

Horological Friends,

In the past I've had no problems sending money to TD via Western Union. TD emailed me their Western Union contact's name in Cambodia, I sent went to TD's contact in Cambodia as an individual, TD informed me they had collected money the following day, in a couple weeks I received QC, GL'd it, and watch was shipped. Seemed like the Western Union billing method was perfect.

I set up another purchase this past week. Again I requested Western Union as the method of payment (also, credit card payment is explicitly unavailable for TD at the moment). TD emailed me their new, different, Western Union contact's name. Also in Cambodia. But when I attempted to send money today, Western Union refused, posting an error message the clerk showed me: "ERROR: Sender may be subject to scam" or something to that effect.

Question:

Should I attempt to resend the money using Western Union and a different sender's name, telephone number, etc. (family members are happy to help)? Or, should I request TD provide a different Cambodian contact to whom I can send the money via Western Union?

I expect the TD's contact name and place has been flagged by Western Union for unusually strong activity--perhaps while their credit card option is down. I don't want to create greater complications for the TD, whose Western Union account may be getting flagged. Alternatively, it may be that Western Union has flagged my name and phone number, simply because I have made relatively large transfers to individuals in Cambodia--in which case, sending from another name and phone number might work. In which case sending from an alternative name and number might work.

Thoughts?

Sounds like a major pain but some people really like WU I would try both, you giving a new name and the TD providing a new name. If those don't work, wait until the TD can do credit cards.

suggest you change TD. Nothing against the guy, he is certainly alright buts...
When these kind of things happen at the start, the order is usually jinxed 😅

Who's the TD?

Hey, eBoy--thanks for the question. This order is for and order from Puretime. Never had a problem in the past, either with payments to TD or with paying via Western Union. Hoping to avoid creating a bigger hassle for TD and self.

Just to close out this issue, TD was able to provide a different Western Union receiver's name in Cambodia. With this new receiver, I was able to use my own name, address, I.D., etc., as sender, and the transfer went through just fine. It wasn't flagged, I had no problems. In an abundance of caution, I did make this transfer from a new and different Western Union office; not sure if that helped or was completely unnecessary. Anyway, TD received the funds, and a month later I received my watch.

Takeaways: The TDs are clever, and Western Union's flagging algorithm must not be too robust.

Friends, many thanks for the suggestion to use Wise. I will happily add that to my payment arsenal in the future, sounds like a great system. Thanks again for all the help and advice!
