So I'm sitting here reading this post about crystals exploding and I look over and my fiddy is pointed straight at me.....LMAO....I actually turned it around to face the opposite direction.

"I don't feel safe in my own home with my fiddy"

LOL

Be careful not to scratch it. You should put it in a environmentally controled bubble, on top of a pilow, face down.

Someone less mature than me could have a field day with that statement :) 8)

You have to remove the bezel to remove the left over glass and install the new crystal. If you look around the bezel where it meets the watch, you will find a small area the will accept a knife, or similar, to get under it and pop it off. Keep looking, it's small and hard to find. As Enzo stated in your thread, pressing the new crystal into the bezel must be preformed with care. It should be done with a crystal press, which any watch maker will have. This happened to the plant super where I work a few months back. We charted the profile of the new crystal and machined a couple pieces of nylon to match, then pressed the crystal into the bezel with a small arbor press. I'll use the same thing to fix mine. Once the crystal is on the bezel, simply pop the bezel back onto the watch.

Where did you get the crystal? If you got it from the same dealer you bought the watch from you a likely going to have this problem again. I would suggest spending a little money now, $85 shipped, on a genuine sapphire from Davidsen. This will ensure that you will not have to go through this again.

talked to a few people that had explded crystals.

what a pain in the ass.....watch gone for month....shitty repairs, if at all. lots of headache.

then...they explode again. the only one i never heared about any of those problems is the DVSN crystal.

had it myself, now cybee. no problems

if you wanna repair your fiddys you would need to find a dealer to sell you the crystals then find a watch smith to install them if you dont have the means to do it yourself.

My $4.00 solution:
My crystal self destructed several months ago also...Since I don't have any "self loathing" instincts, I don't buy anything from Dsn, so I looked around for a simple, cheap, permanent, solution...Acrylic !!
Found a very acceptable 40mm acrylic pocket watch on O.Frei's website for $4.00....Snapped right into my bezel with a very tiny amount of work on the edge (it is actually 40.3 mm, and needs to be reduced to 40 mm to just "snap in")...
It is slightly less domed than the original, but I find it quite acceptable, especially in light of the fact that if it gets scratched, I can buff it out in a minute...And I doubt I'll live long enough to worry about it turning yellow with age!!

i found two. one is listed as 40.0mm - XT-PLD 43, and one is listed as 40.3mm - PLD 43 1/2. they are listed as being 'Plastic PLD' crystals. not sure what that means or if these are the correct crystals.

IIRC...It's the 40.3mm one....Unfortunately, I have lost my records of the original deal, but I'm almost sure that's the one...It was listed in the pocket watch section...
Be aware that this doesn't have as much dome as the original, perhaps 1.5mm less....But IMHO, it looks more reasonable than the 'bubble" effect of the original...

as far as your modification of the crystal, did you just sand the edge to get it to fit or is it another method? the dome difference doesnt bother me much as long as it fits into the bezel snug.

Yes...just a light sanding ...very fine grit, sand a little, try it, sand a little more...till it just snaps in...Mine went right into the gasket snugly...I was prepared to use some cement, but it turned out to be unnecessary...
