Hi all, first time poster here on RWI. There’s a wealth of information on this site, I had no choice but to branch out from Reddit to here and see what further info I can get from the community.

I recently purchased a PAM01365 from theonewatches. It’s a gorgeous piece. Being relatively new to the rep world, the one thing that irks me about this all is how these finely made watches are said to be waterproofed to 30m (I believe), but we all know it’s a gamble when it comes to these things touching water—especially considering these aren’t exactly cheap.

For me to truly wear this as a daily, any of my watches for that matter, I need to be absolutely sure that one of the most common elements were exposed to that it has protection from. Whether it be jumping in a pool, swimming in the ocean, etc.

I’d love to know how to get my Panerai waterproofed. Whether doing it myself, a trusted local source (I’m in NYC) or the final frontier to send to a trusted source here on RWI.

Could someone point me in the right direction on where to go? Even if there’s a guide, I’m alright with that. Still getting used to this site.

Hello and WELCOME from the official RWI reception desk!

We're thrilled to have you here! If you’re receiving this message, it’s because you’ve either posted in the "New Members Say Hi" section or made your first post(s) elsewhere on the forum. If it’s the latter, why not take a moment to introduce yourself in the New Members Say Hi section?

If you haven’t already, it’d be great to hear a bit about you—where you're from, your age, how you got into watches (especially replicas), and any interests or experiences you’ve had with them.

Before you dive in, please take a moment to review the sticky threads. They contain vital information, including the forum rules. Pay particular attention to the sales rules—you won't be eligible to sell items until you meet specific criteria and are certified.

You’ve already nailed the main ways to get your watch tested for water resistance. Basically, you’ve got three solid options:

Go with an RWI-endorsed vendor – These guys are usually your safest bet. They're trusted by the community (and have been vetted by our admins!), they know what they’re doing, and they’re used to handling reps without any hiccups.

Hit up a hobbyist watchmaker on here, Repgeek or Reddit– There are plenty of skilled members in the community who have the right tools and experience. A lot of them will do pressure tests and minor (or even major) servicing.

Try a local shop – This can be hit or miss. Some local watch repair places are totally chill, especially if you don’t mention it’s a rep. Others might refuse outright or give you the side-eye. Best case is finding a shop that’s known to be rep-friendly—ask around on the forum or check your local threads.

A couple things to keep in mind: not all pressure tests are the same. Some places do dry tests (which are safer), and others use wet testing. It’s worth asking what method they use, and how deep they test to—especially if you actually plan on swimming or showering with the watch. Also, make sure your caseback, crown, and gaskets are properly sealed before testing. A loose seal can ruin your day real quick.

End of the day, go with whatever you’re comfortable with. Plenty of members have gone each route and had good results—just do a little homework and you’ll be fine. 🙂
