Not my pic but saw it today and can't help but share it here

"Might do a little write-up what I’ve done with this watch. Never serviced or waterproofed, just a beater that works amazingly well." :Super-Ad3871

..like I said. "Built for this" :) he's not even just swimming he's got us all beat straight up diving! and he's never had to service or waterproof it or anything.. he said it's a "pre-raid VSF" whatever that means :)

Back in the mid 2000's I was selling literally hundreds of Rolex reps, and I would often sell the one i was wearing if someone wanted it.

I was also into Waterskiing and always in water.
Back then a fair few would withstand lesser depth diving, barefoot waterskiing, (crashes into the water at 40+ MPH) etc, but also there were many many that would not.

Then factor in the stupidity of many folks, like one guy that always springs to mind who had left the crown undone and moaned at me because it filled up with water and was totally fucked by the time he got back from 2 weeks holiday !!

I fully understand why these days no - one guarantees Waterproof ratings.

Personally I don't even take a shower in my reps these days let alone engage in watersports , but I will do once I've bought a decent pressure tester and tested all of them.

It is IMHO stupid to risk it for the sake of a £6 pressure test, the Gens may be built for it, but the Reps certainly aren't ;)

I'm in florida so in the water a bit often. 100m watches didn't hold up when jumping or diving into the water or body surfing in the ocean. They were fine for normal swimming and swimming in the deep end of swimming pools. I've since switched to a 200m Casio gshock for the water the past couple years and no issues, even dove with it to 60m ok.

the best solution from my point of view, is a selfmade dry pressure tester which even costs less then the wet tester

there is a great tutorial in the german "uhrforum", hopefully linking it is allowed here, it has pictures so reading the text is not necessary: https://uhrforum.de/threads/projekt-selbstbau-wasserdichtigkeitspruefgeraet.218453/page-9

The wet testers don't actually get water inside the watch if you use them correctly, unless of course their is a huge leak down.

I had a huge leak down twice on my reps, but sure, properly used the wet testers work quite well. I will not stop anyone for using the wet testers, but in my opinion the dry testers are far more comfortable to use and the DIY solution is quite easy to build an cheap. More options are always better

Does anyone have any experience taking their watches into the ocean or swimming pool. Submariner and Omega Planet Ocean.

Thanks in advance,

Why is it necessary? I have a genuine Omega Planet Ocean 600 m that I've never worn in a pool or Ocean. My G-shock and Garmin are my workout and swimming watches.

I could see the need if you are on vacation at some pool or beach resort.
