which has the better movment VS3235 or VR3235

Which has the better Date window ?

dial seems to be the same on both from what I’ve looked

Also re the plating how does it stand up? anyone know which one has the better coating

A) closest to the Gen
B) longevity of the coating

Thanks guys

Look forward to your thoughts and advice

A place of darkness and light a.k.a. EU
Better movement = VSF
Slightly better optics = Clean

Not sure if this also valid for the Sub 40mm, but that is what I, an outspoken Rolex ignorer and non-buyer, take from the gist of all the Rolex Clean vs VSF discussions I've seen, so take my "expertise" with a mountain of salt. 😉

Although the VS is considered the better movement, the VR is more easily replaceable, also in terms of single parts, and it's a good movement.
Considering the gold plating, I've read that clean has a good gold colour, but can't say much from firsthand experience tbh. Important for plated watches is keeping them clean and wiping them off skin's residues every day.
DW should be good for both.

40mm - VS is king except for the gold models, CF > VS ootb, but if you gold plate just take the VS

41mm - toss up between both, I would pick VS for the date Subs, Clean for no date

Wipe of just with a lint free cloth? Water or no?

Ah. Well actually then this becomes more complicated. Do you like tungsten? Do you prefer the heavy weight? If yes I suggest you do some research, look at TED factory which is a VSF offshoot. ARF also does the 40mm RG with tungsten as well.

If not, VSF is my choice for the WG/SS, Clean for the precious metal ones. But if you willing and can find someone to plate, VSF all the way. Imho Clean does the bezel slightly better but it's not a big enough improvement to have a bad crystal and worse movement.

I have vsf Starbucks and clean gmt Batman and I think people should know that parts can be expensive if you go with the vs3235 movement or the dd3285 movement in the clean gmt. If your watchsmith doesn’t have used parts you’re left buying genuine Rolex parts. A Genuine Rolex screw can cost as much as a normal rep movement. Don’t make the mistake of thinking that you’ll have plenty of time to worry about parts later because the reliability of reps has always been a crapshoot. These 1:1 movements might last 20 years or 20 minutes so keep that in mind. Just my humble opinion

Vr3235 and vr3285 are interchangble with those movements and cost $150 on AliX, if your VS shits out just buy one of those and swap

But yeah, the 3135 and 3186 are way more prevelant and cheaper to fix

You’re right of course. I have a little issue with my keyless at times and the watchsmith doesn’t have parts. It’s not a bad problem but it’s aggravating. the crown doesn’t slip into position when I go to set it. I have to feel for it and with my meathooks it takes a couple of tries sometimes. I could have the movement swapped out but I’m just gonna live with it for now.
It’s the little things that should be repairable but aren’t that make those two movements less desirable

Wow there really is more to think about.

In all honesty I’m not to fussed with the inside as no one but me will use it. But want one I know I can either have repaired or just replace the entire movement and it drop in no issue.

Weight wise be nice to have a heaver one and have found a guy that can re plate but in the US so have to send it over seas. And then becomes pricey.

I thought VSF and clean was the way to go ARF seemed to have lost its edge. I’ll take a further look as o was set on the VSF.
