The VSF one.. very close to gen. Only tell is in the open back and if you are a expert.

Could I know what are the tells in the open back? Really curious as was thinking of buying this gen in the grey market but really wary of reps sold as gen. Would appreciate the advice. Tried looking but couldn't find a good gen vs rep article of the seamaster 300m. Thanks!

Yeah, the VSF looks to be the best. So from reading, the V2 resolved a few issues, namely the shitty clasp and issue with endlinks?

Is there a thread regarding the differences between v1 and v2?

Do you mean on pictures or IRL. For me, from what I saw, the endlink can be a tell, to begin with.

I don't think there is a thread specifically between V1 and 2, but the main thread when the V2 came out surely compares them.

The VSF V2 looks great, going to look out for the crooked 9pm marker!

You have tons of comparatives here or on others threads, to make your opinion. But I find it even nicer IRL. Have not seen a gen one though.

I have gone through a bunch of threads lol just OCD and I just got into the omegas. I am placing an order soon but just wanted to confirm, the best Seamaster right now is the VSF V2 correct?

As they say hind sight is 20-20 and since you have yours already you can chime in.

I should look out for crooked 9 marker and overly yellow lume? I also wonder how good the dial and bezel color match up with gen.

I’ve personally decided to go with the Seamaster VSF V2 based on what I’ve seen across the forums, but I’m sure other people may have a different opinion. Hoping to order mine soon from a TD.

Any clear flaws can be picked up on QC. If you are really OCD a gen may be a better option :)

Just recieved my V2, and exactly the same issue with the 9pm marker. Plus I can't get a small enough screwdriver to remove any of the links!!!

I use a 118004 from Wera (0,3 x 1,8) that works fine on all watches I own.

I guess VSF V2 with blue dial is the best at the moment ?

Also, Has anyone done a side by side of the blue dial omega with a gen? I did see the silver dial side by side.

Have a look at pics people have shared on here of their own and you can compare yourself with pics of the gen. I’m sure you would find on the forums a side by side comparison.

So I got my VSF Silver/grey 300m in a little while ago and had some thoughts. Firstly, to address Sonofalich and Craig S's concerns on the 9 o'clock marker, yours may very well be slightly off, however, the angle seemed fine when I put it in photoshop on grid view. Look on Omega's own site, and you will notice even theirs looks a little off. This is because the wave pattern creates a slight optical illusion, so if yours are off, the illusion would likely make it look more off than it is (I think they look fine).

Regarding the links, VSF seems to locktite all the link screws down and the screws themselves are...fine, but not great quality. As another post on here mentioned, you ABSOLUTELY need a hairdryer or heat gun to soften the locktite, or you will destroy the screws. Do not attempt without a heat gun, trust me.

The visual tells visible to the naked eye: This is a really impressive replica, but it is not perfect.
  1. It is about a 1/2mm thicker than the gen because of the thicker Asian 2824 movement.
  2. The movement dress-up is impressive, but it is still covering the real movement; you can see the real 2824 bridge underneath the faux 8800 full bridge.
  3. The faux 8800 regulator assembly is visibly less detailed than gen.
  4. The Oscillating weight is slightly thicker and slightly higher than the gen, making a noticeably more stark contrast between it, and the movement underneath in the crescent window above the text.
  5. [MAYBE] The naiad lock is supposedly to have the "Diver 300m" and "330m /1000ft" text align with the 12 and 6 o'clock positions, respectively (as is in all press material), however, understanding how rubber seals work, I find this claim dubious, and I have seen plenty of photos of legitimate Seamasters that are off as well.
That said, on all 4 of those [real] counts, you really need to know what you are looking for, and even some jewelers would likely not notice. All the other tells need magnification and a direct compare with a gen. Also, it's a really nice watch, in general. My only real complaint is that the bracelet's clasp scratches very easily. But I have not had any issue with the case itself. All in all, I definitely recommend, and for any of you waiting on yours, I think you will be happy. Hope some of this helped.

Hey folks,

VSF SMP V2 seems reaal nice and I’m about to pull the trigger but in all my reps I look for longevity as these are $500 watches..

love the clone movement in these Seamasters but what if VSF stops producing these and the movement dies? I have reps from over a decade ago so thats why I’m thinking this way

The VSF SMP uses a standard Asian 2824 (ETA clone), not a clone of an 8800. The 8800 bits, while impressive looking, are nothing more than a decorated rotor and some extra decorated plates on top of the actual movement. The actual movement is, part for part, just a 2824 and is generally regarded to be as reliable as a gen ETA 2824; the parts can even be swapped between the two.

The story goes that supposedly ETA at one point actually had their movements manufactured in Chinese plants, and simply did the finishing and dressing up (like pearling the plates) in Switzerland. After getting negative press, they moved all their manufacturing back, but the damage was done: those Chinese factories had all the tooling and know-how to make a perfect 2824 clone. Now, take that story with a grain of salt, as I have never verified this, but what I have verified is that the movements work very well, from all my internet research. As for mine, well, it's only been a year, but it still keeps time about a half a second a day better than my Gen Seamaster (-2 a day), so it's working fine so far.

Now bear in mind, my review is only 1 year in, but it seems like a quality watch (specs all check out). The movement is easily serviceable, but you will need to have a watchmaker that is ok working on a rep.
