VS3135 - fix keyless from front or back ?

I was putting my stem in after casing my movement (gen 15200 case, gen dial, gen hands, VS3135) and I somehow messed up the keyless because the stem just spins, it doesn't engage any position at all, spins freely. It can go in and out and screw down, but it just doesn't do anything, I can't set the time or date.

Everywhere I read people say take off the hands, dial, and date disc and then you can remove the keyless mechanism cover

but then again lots of people are linking to this video as a repair guide, but this dude takes off the automatic winding mechanism and then the winding bridge and does it from the back

tbh I feel more comfortable trying it from the back? it seems easier ? can't you even get the winding bridge off with the watch still cased ? fit the keyless in situ and then just put the bridge and the winding mechanism back and not risk messing it up again when inserting.

Ive read 30 diff threads today on all diff forums and everyone just says "plenty of videos showing this" - but I can't find a single one of anyone doing it on a 3135 other than the one I just posted above

if anyone could link me some more material to watch or read I'd be very appreciative

thanks so much !

Not a 3135 but the principles could be useful to you

Thread 'How to reset an ETA keyless works externally'
https://forum.replica-watch.info/threads/how-to-reset-an-eta-keyless-works-externally.10985279/

Baseline is to understand where it is fouled before sticking pointy things in a mvt 😱
thanks! im gonna bookmark this and keep it for next time I have an ETA project, ive only ever uncased and cased 3 etas before but Ive never fouled the keyworks on them luckily

I just took my 3135 out again and the little slot to try to get something in and nudge in there is so incredibly tiny, a 0.8mm screwdriver won't even come close to fitting

I have a question. I was fixing that hands on my VSF 116610 and when i put them stem back in i think i broke it. I read (now afterwards) when you put the stem back in you need to push the stem release down not just jam it in. Help

Resetting a keyless works is Not that easy. If you have Not been working on movements before I would suggest talking it to a watchsmith. For him its an easy fix.

its a rep movement though, watch smith going to murder me or at the very least hate me and badmouth me to his wife after he gets home

plus how much is that gonna cost ? 100 GBP would just buy me another VS3135 lol

I would prefer to try to do it myself, I dont really think I can break anything while resetting a key less right ?

I recently had the setting lever break on a 3130 clone....took me a while to work out as to why the stem wasn't engaging properly...so it may be more than just a reset of the keyless you need. The parts are all available from various sources though.

Here is a decent YouTube 3135 service video..keyless works 6 mins in....

Couple of tips...
Take pictures at every stage before you reach for the screw drivers.
Reading glasses really help see the tiny tiny screws.
Large clean non slip work surface.
As you disassemble lay the parts out in their different "sections".
Hoover the floor before you start, it'll make it easier to find the parts that jump off on their own!

Good luck.

dangit setting lever costs almost as much as a new movement off aliexpress. let's hope that's not the problem.

As @geoffdragon points out Mark Lovick covers the 3135 on his YouTube channel. I think you’ll find his videos are generally the best tutorials you’ll find for this movement.
