Thanks a lot guys! I'm glad some people have enjoyed this. BTW, I agree about scuffing the plexi as it would look better considering how distressed the rest of the watch is now.

Outstanding finish to a great project. Watch looks great and conveys that "You wouldn't believe the places I've been" look. Thanks for sharing this and enjoy!

I appreciate the warm comments! As odd as this little watch is, I have grown to like it very much and I wear it quite often. A couple weeks ago I decided to try it on a metal bracelet. I had a PO bracelet laying around, so I scuffed it up some and put it on. Here is the way it looks now:

I can't believe the way it all pulled together. Going through the thread and looking at the individual steps by themselves I couldn't envision how it was going to turn out, other than pretty beat up. The "modding" gave it a new depth and character. Definitely the best vintagizing I've seen. Nice work!
What's next?

It's funny you should ask. I have a 6154 that is pretty much done other than needing a movement ring. It's a pretty boring version with only silver hands and brass lug bars to set it apart from all the others out there.

However, I bought a strange little watch on ebay last night (pictures below). I'm going to try to put that dial and movement into a Jackson Fiddy case. I recently got a super thick plexi from NeckyZips that I hope will look good on there. I have pretty strange tastes, so it definitely won't appeal to everyone. Hopefully with enough work, at least I will like it!

Really great thread - stuff like this is what's great about forums. I was being drawn to vintage Rollies but I'm like you - prefer the more understated brands. Now I've got the blueprint of a plan... I'll pass my wife and 3 children your details so they can thank you !?

It's not exactly on par with one of your watches! For example, your vintage Seamaster journey concluded with so many awesome parts that you actually have a gen! Guys like you and Donerix have much higher quality builds. I just like to fumble around with my watches until I end up with something I like better. I do have a lot of fun though...

To be honest, the first time I read the thread title, my first thought was, "Crap... Am I that old? An SMP is a vintage now?' Seeing the latest pictures was a pleasant surprise. I've seen similar things done with modern Rolexes (I'm thinking specifically of pbdad's 'Fallout'-retro DSSD), but it's wonderful to see someone taking the same approach with an Omega.

Come to think of it, there was that one vintagized PloProf, but your Seamaster is much more subtle!

I do have a lot of fun though...
Amen.

very cool, great job. I'm loving this side of the watch world

If you like this stuff, check out the thread by Bonesy in the Tutorial section. He goes into better detail and his results are superior to mine. When I read it, I wanted to try this again!

It's back together! Well, for now anyway. The crown tube won't stay in the case so I will need to address that. Other than that, everything is great. It's always nice to see a watch running again after it has been apart.

Here is the most amazing thing about this project: I only spent $26.67 from start to finish. That was for the crystal (two actually) that I got from Ofrei. I've owned the watch for over a year and the strap was just sitting in a box since I sold the watch I wore it on. All the other stuff like lume, tools, stain, paint, etc. I already had in the house. Plus, I learned alot and had some fun.

Thanks for following along.....
