It's as accurate as they come, which means tiny details. Indeed it would be a 6152/1
which were made with both Crown guards and screw-type crowns...

Is the Marina Militare on the dial engraved or printed? Looks printed to me, but hard to tell.

For me, thats one of the best features of DSN's dials and a tiny but important detail found on the originals.

The more I hang out of forums like this, the less I am impressed with WM's work (I have my flame proof suit on!). Thats a nice watch, but not WOW AMAZING. Looks like an RXW type case. Case back looks custom. Dial not custom. Crown may be gen, but DSN has great crowns. Dial probably stock. DSN has awsome vintage dials. Movement is common enough that if you go on eBay, several pop up a month. Hands? who knowns. Probably rep. Watch is aged nicely, but been seen on this board before.

Many of Enzo's watches impress me more. I'm not trying to kiss your a$$, just being honest!

IMHO, part of the enjoyment is creating the watch. Collecting the parts (most if not all from DSN ;) ), sourcing the movement, and if you don't have the skills to build it, at least giving it to a local watchmaker or sending it off to someone like Enzo, Ziggy or Mark/Finepics.

Finepics/mark: if u r reading this, When r u going ot post some pics of your 3646 project? The case looks awsome!

Yes it does! You should just feel it.

The detail work there is quite impressive. Astonishing in fact if someday you have the chance (or the curse :) ) to hold that watch in your hand!

Mark has the keenest eye and a heavily talented craftsmanship.

Cheers,
Marco

Enzo, Im not trying to purposely piss people off. I was just responding to the "its as accurate as it comes" comment. I didn't intend to rip apart WM's work, I guess the post just ended up that way. In my mind atleast, I was just compairing the WM to DSN's vinatge pieces, which IMHO are just as, if not more accurate than the pic of the watch which was posted (and now removed) (other than the non Rolex movement).

DSN does pay attention to certain little details. He has engraved dials, which are the closest thing out there to gen at the moment, and DSN now has the GPF buckles (a really really cool thing). The WM may have used an gen vintage Rolex crown, but DSN's custom crowns are now pretty close to perfect.

For me, it also comes down to cost. DSN's watch is what? 1/4th the price?? Unless I am mistaken, I believe many of your projects start with a DSN case and dial, which you ultimatley mod.

I would love an accurate vinatge rep piece. When I am not busy with school, pissing people off here  , or just plain remember, I surf around looking for vintage movements I can build into a 3646 or 6152 rep.

I fell in to the world of horology at about 13-14 years of age, going to the flea market and buying old/vintage, often broken pieces for only a few $$.

I happen to love your posts and love your projects. I have a file on my computer where I saved pics of most if not all your projects. I hope in the near future I can emulate some of your work.

Do I agree with you 100% of the time? Of course not. Usually I think your pieces are as accurate as it gets. Would I occasionally do something a bit different? Sure. I.e. Maybe I would age a dial less, or age it more. Maybe use a different crystal or hands for example.

In the end, it comes down to preference. When I build my dream watch, I will be building it for myself. So my goal is to make myself happy. I hope and assume you do the same when you start a project.

As far as WM's watches go, I would NOT kick them out of my bed! But if I was spending a large amount of money for the "most perfect" 6152 rep, I'd want it to truely be prefect. For me, that would definatley mean an engraved sandwich dial on a 3646 & 6152.

The main thing with WM's watches is that he has done the work. You buy it, and its pretty much ready to wear. And for those who do not have the time or skill, hes an invaluable resource. I wish I had lots of extra money laying around, as I have wanted to buy many of his pieces.

When it comes to Panerai, I am looking forward to building my own piece (at this point, it looks like most of the parts will be comming from DSN). I don't think I have the skill, but I love to learn. I think building something and figuring out problems is a large part of the enjoyment. And when I look down at my watch, knowing that I built it (or collected the parts for it and put it together) will make the watch even sweeter to me.

I appologise if I led people to believe they can hire you as their personal watchmaker  . I thought I have read in the past people having work on their watches done by you? Maybe they just bought some parts or a watch that you had for sale? I hope no one bugged you! or atleast bugged you because of my post! (I've bugged you in the past actually and you have always been VERY helpful  )

Still with me Enzo?

The aged Cali dial looks great, can you provide a little info on how you aged it? yes, I know, trade secrets...but just a little hint...did you throw in bleach or something and then relume? or did you just re-dial it and use beige paint on the dial? Thanks!

despite what is said above, don't be sending me anything! :) That implies I do this work for hire and I don't. Please bug the people that WANT to do service work.

@ragerover you are fine to voice your opinions over details. I find when I do it I get caught up in a pissing match extrodinare; and I understand why. But I am not the one to disscect WM's work and ideas. If I do in any sense, I do it by my own example and not by nitpicking his efforts. I don't think anyone here would kick that watch out of bed for eating crackers ... :)
