5513 Vietnam case build

For the second time I had the chance to build a watch completely out of vietnam parts, including the case set.

I have to say, like many befor mementioned, they are superior to JKF/cartel cases but still need some work to get there with the gen.

Apart from these minor details this case set has very good construction quality, both outside and inside. Crown and tube are at least at Athaya's level, bezel is one of the best I have seen so far and insert is pretty good along with its pearl.
Lugs are already drilled to accept gen-spec springbars and engravings are correct and really engraved, no laser etching here.
The only thing you need to add is a bracelet. I opted for the raffles one because yuki's fits too snugly on my 7.75" wrist.

So yes, case set is expensive but you get the best components available without having to swap in lots of parts. You be the judge whether it's worth the price difference.
The most important thing to remember about these cases is they are compatible with 2824 movements while the usual 2836 used in cartel reps cannot fit here (of course they need a compatible movement holder).

The goal for this build was a very gently aged watch, with only minor marks and clean patina dial so my work on the case was limited to some refinishing and a careful assembly.

Here's a complete part list:

- Vietnam complete case set
- Clark T19 crystal
- Mix of Clark and cartel hands
- Vietnam matte dial
- Raffles riveted bracelet

That's all for now, hope you enjoyed the pics :)

Ho provato Yuki e mi stato troppo stretto, eppure non è che io abbia un polso così enorme a 18.5 cm.

Fantastico l’effetto invecchiato delle lancette e gli idici non eccessivamente gonfi ..

She's a beauty!!! Really love the subtle patina too. I think for me that is what makes it look more gen like. It looks like a well cared for heirloom. Congrats!!!

Looks good!

What were the minor case mods you did?

I’ve been considering a rivet bracelet for my 1675. Is this the Raffles one you have here:
http://rafflesdials.com/signed-soli...p-for-vintage-36mm-rolex-explorer-watch-case/
In his pictures it doesn’t look like folded links. But in your pictures, I can see the seams of folded links.
Also, how do you like the quality of Raffles vs Yuki? It’s more than $100 price difference, with Yuki bring more expensive, is it worth the price?

may I suggest a different approach to the bezel insert "ageing"? in real life the insert is well protected from scratches by the bezel ring on the outside and the protrusion of the crystal on the inside, the circular marks left by the discolouring process are too obvious.

Bracelet was sourced from my TD, it is either from BP factory or cartel, I don't know. raffles is varying, some bracelets were the same as this one some were different.

I did not think it was too obvious, on the contrary I was happy with it. There are thousands of different faded inserts out there with many of them showing signs of ghosting on the outer or inner or both edges and they are all far from free from scratches so I don't know what's really protecting them. Besides the circular mark in my insert is really visible only from 30 to about 50 but yes, I think I get what you mean. There's always room for improvement :)

Oh man, such a stunning piece of art you did with this 5513 build.
Nice watch and gorgeous looking.

Very nice details, like the "old" crown with only the coronet on it. Perfectly in details.

Builds, esp Vietnam parts, do not come cheap at all but do look very good. Great piece of art.
