Hi, Gang!

I've been trying to up upload this video of the watch I just purchased from Stan @ WBK: the new Rolex 50th Anniversary Daytona rep. It houses the new Seiko VK movement, a quartz/mechanical hybrid that allows the main chronograph seconds to have a fairly smooth sweep -- like the A 7750. The smaller seconds hand in the subdial @ 6 still ticks, of course; but that hand is so small it'd be hard to see unless someone takes a very close view of it. When you push the RESET pusher, the seconds hand immediately snaps back to "0." I also recorded that but it didn't transfer. Anyway, (hopefully), here's the video. Let me know what you think: and a BIG THANK YOU to Stan @ WBK for introducing this to me; it's about as close to an A7750 that I'm willing to take. dave: Also, you might have to click on the picture to get the video to work. it's what I had to do when previewing this.

I'd love it if they started using this movement in vintage Daytonas too. I'm not sure what the thickness of the movement is, but I imagine it would allow for the midcase to be thin enough.

Trudat! Though if I don't know it costs $75k I doubt many others would. The quartz movement is way more obvious. Nice looking watch though.

Hmm you're right. :p

Yes, it's really nice. I'm not a Rolex guy at all (although I like Sub but who doesn't?) but this watch appeared to me first time I saw it. As someone mentioned before, I don't understand why it has so many negative comments. :/

Of course it's a rep, but I am not sure exactly how it screams rep, esp. when the subdial spacing is correct. If you're referring to the seconds hand in the subdial at 6, well, yeah, I suppose; but the subdial hand is so small that doubt someone would notice with the naked eye from a distance. Besides, if someone asked me if this Daytona was a gen, I'd say NO. I'm not trying to impress THEM; I'm impressing ME. Thanks for the feeback, though; it is what I had asked of the membership anyway.

Screams rep to me. Thanks for uploading. Now I know :)

Thanks, Shelby. Personally, I believe the "negative" comments were honestly given by the other mates. The seconds dial @ six does "tic" and all, but I believe it's too small for some to notice with the naked eye, unless the grabbed my wrist and took an upclose look -- which I would not allow to happen anyway. AND, perhaps, the larger chrono seconds is not exactly silky smooth is probably a valid criticism. I don't believe these comments are inherently negative. I asked for comments, and I'm receiving them. Personally, I like this movement; it's as close to the time bomb that is an A 7750 as I'm willing to get. Do I wish this movement were better? Sure, but a new "Oyster Quartz" type movement would drive the price of this beauty up into the atmosphere.

Good point, cromag: A gen of this would NOT be 75k, but it IS way up there just the same (having a brain fart & can't remember the MSRP). It's quartz but doesn't bother me in the least, as outlined in other responses to this observation in other parts of this thread. Thanks just the same.

I don't think so, flieger. I mumble a lot and don't exactly enunciate the way I should anymore-- problems with the throat muscles and such, courtesy of my brain surgery. (Really!!).

dave

Did you say "Roleck"? I thought I heard that.

Hi, TB! Video should operate when you click on pic. When you do that, it'll take you to the Photobucket site; just click on the small "start" arrow on the lower left screen. I just did this, so check it out. If not, let me know and I'll try to send you a better link.
