reps will always be flawed compared with the gen but on their own they are beautiful timepieces on the wrist and should be appreciated as such, as opposed to being compared to the gen and noting only the differences
Agree 100%.
I do understand the benefit of analyzing a particular rep model and recognizing the achievement of the factory for having nailed some "gen like" features or, conversely, pointing out the "flaws" of the rep (compared to the gen) and considering them as a failure of a factory. After all, we are in a rep forum discussing reps so more credit will rightly be due to the factory that will make the closest copy of the gen.
However, when it comes to choosing a rep, I choose to see it as a watch that happens to be a rep. And I will go further, there are some instances in which I find the rep more to my liking than the gen. For example, I am not a fan of sunburst dials on AP RO models. The bracelet already shines like a disco ball under intense lighting so when you add the sunburst effect of the dial, I feel like I am walking with an AP neon sign at my wrist. For that reason I actually do like the ZF AP 15202 because of its lack of sunburst and it's for the same reason that I prefer the black dial of the ZF 15500 to the DP grey dial. It's just a matter of personal taste and at the end of the day your personal taste is all that should matter.
Alright let's go back to showing our APs. I know date is off. I did not have the strength nor the patience to go almost a full month from 12 to 8. I will just pull the crown and wait 4 days before wearing it again!
I might get a winder just to avoid having to set the date on this watch...
