I lived a large part of my life in France and my heart goes out to all my friends and acquaintances in France. Killing innocent lives and terrorism has no place in this world, no matter what beliefs one has. God bless. :~(
We are indeed living in dangerous times. I tend to keep away from places that have large crowds. Where it is a mix-up of all kinds of people. The perfect venue for bad guys to attack. The bad guys are all around us. It is a mindset being a terrorist. So you can never tell. So looking around wont give you a hint of anything. That nice lady looking pregnant might just be ready to avenge her brothers death. Who knows ??? We have to be vigilant and trust our senses. If it does not 'feel' right, don't go. Stay home and have a beer in your couch. Stay safe.
Those who attack civillians are cowards...they were probably brain washed by some lunatics that teached them that it is right to kill for innocent people for the crimes comited in their own country.

Another tragic event and so sorry for the French people to experience this. I'm sure it will be confirmed at some point ISIS or some other Islamic group is involved and the sad thing is that they are tagged to Islam when in fact all of these groups are nothing more than common criminals. Faith is something they hide behind while they are financed by wealthy patrons that enjoy the luxuries and freedoms of the countries and peoples they attack. Wish the media would stop labeling them Islamic terrorists because they don't represent Muslims. They are simply terrorists and scum of the earth. If there was a way to annihilate these ******* without hurting the innocent I'd be all for it.

Apart from the fact it's just plain wrong to do what you suggest do you honestly think it would stop them? All it would achieve is to ensure that the entire region has good reason to see the West wiped off the face of the earth. The righteous (and for that matter rightful) indignation and horror that would grip every citizen in the ME would see them rising up and marching like a crusade to destroy the West.The support base other militant groups would increase by a magnitude of 10 thousand. Those who see ISIS as barbarians would see us as even worse. Legitimate nations such as the Arab conglomerate would turn against us. Iran would more than likely use it as an excuse to nuke Israel and it would be on.
I don't know the solution but I do know yours is not it. No war is harder to fight than a guerrilla war as I well know, I've seen my fair share of 'em. Vigilance is the first line of defence but if proper cell based tactics are used it is very hard to catch the tiny whispers that portend to this sort of event. This one probably should have been caught as it's big, to big to be a single cell so there must have been noise. Either they are getting better at communicating covertly or someone really stuffed up. The only real way to prevent these events is to catch them in the planning stage and that obviously did not happen here.
Intelligence is the key, looking, listening and interpreting events and comms. Get eyes and ears on the ground both at home and in theatre. Back moderates who oppose fundamentalism both at home and abroad. At home back them to educate youth, back then in removing radical elements from mosques and positions of power in ethnic orgs. Assist them in running a media campaign to equal the excellent job the ISIS in doing on line and in person to convince vulnerable people that they should fight for "the cause". Give them a new cause, one that won't get them or anyone else killed.
One thing tho, once that fight is lost and they try to leave for the war zone don't stop 'em, let the fools go and get killed just don't let them back in again. Keeping them here just makes 'em mad and ready/willing to do battle in their own country instead. Almost without fail people who have either been caught planning or executed terror attacks in western countries have been refused exit from said country to go to the war zone and fight. Let them go die in the sand not in my local cafe or theatre.
The same goes for locals who wish to go fight against ISIS. If they feel that strongly then let them go but allow them home again when they wish assuming they manage to live that long.
Back the moderates fighting them in the war zone. Arm them, train them, support them from the air if needs be.
Yeah I know, that didn't quite work out for the best in Afghanistan but it should have been bleedingly obvious that supporting the Taliban was a dumb move. Even then there was nothing moderate about them, it was simply a ploy to give the Ruskies their own Vietnam and it backfired badly. One would hope by now that the powers than be can do a better job of choosing who to support and face it, everyone is a better proposition than these madmen. We are talking about a group that was rejected by al-Qaeda as being too radical.

We cant stay inside and drink a beer we have to live as we always have and if the worst happens don't lay down on the floor stand up and fight your going to die anyway. I will die on my feet running toward my enemy. I told my wife tonight dont get down on the floor and cover your head, 118 people dead in a concert in Paris if they had all charged towards the killers maybe a few more people would have lived. We could easily win and occupy the whole of the middle east all we need is America, Europe, Russia, India and China. Divide the region up and proceed to re educate the population that surrenders and plenty will surrender once they see who is winning. The reason things like this happen is because they believe they can win.

It's been a while since I've been on the watch forums- but I have just returned from Northern Iraq doing what I used to do- and back in the field again after years of driving a desk.
In the preceding 13 years, I have had my life saved by Muslims. I have had Muslims take bullets for me. I have worked tirelessly to get Muslims I knew out of Iraq and into the US. I have opened my home to Muslims who emigrated while they got on their feet. I have called Muslims "brother" because they have fought, bled and held the line with me.
As I type this right now there are Muslims holding that same line against the monsters who perpetrated this horrendous act. There are Muslims laying down their lives to protect Christians, Jews (yes there are Iraqi Jews) and Yazidis against the encroachment and violence of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt.
As I type this right now I worry about the Muslims I called "brother" who I helped relocate here being the victims of violence perpetrated against them by the ignorant and the reactionary.
As I type this right now I seethe with anger that I even have to worry about that happening to men who would be the FIRST to pick up a rifle and stand shoulder to shoulder with us to put the mice (to use the Iraqi term) of Daesh into the ground.

Gotta agree with that brother, the gloves are off and the French will not worry about international accords. The revenge will be correctly targeted, swift, surgical and with executed with extreme prejudice.
