They are not only in the snack food Hall of Fame for satisfying one's "sweet tooth", but there are some stories that claim that the little desert cake has the shelf life of plutonium..

Twinkle and a coke....man rob you took me back to my childhoo

Phil, the Twinkie is a sponge cake/cream fill snack cake made by Dallas company Hostess. They has been THE snack my whole like....quesntisential grand ma's house snack...a Twinke and a Coke. Hostess filed bankrupsy this spring and the world hurt cause the Twinkie was gone...:( The Ding Dong is a hockey puck shaped chocolate cake/chochlate covered/cream filled cake. They both were and ARE the snack cake of millions and millions and millions of people. I am 49 and I have loved em my whole life. My sack lunch to school as a boy, always had a Twinke or a Ding Dong

I went to college in the town where Malt-O-Meal is headquartered and manufactured. During certain days of the week there would be an overwhelming smell for miles around of toasted oats and baking bread. :)

On campus we had a cereal bar with every Malt-O-Meal product made, from the hot cereal to all of the cold cereals, with ice cold milk dispensers at the end. They are known for bootlegging/repping famous brands and renaming them. They have all the Cheerios varieties, cocoa puffs and fruit loops, and practically every other cold cereal variety you can think of. I never ate as much cereal in my entire life as I did during those 4 years.

My grandma fed us in a similar way when we were kids. However, we were so active (playing, running, walking up to the dime store on main street where grandma always bought us something), I doubt we made it to the next meal without burning off everything we ate in the prior meal. Kids don't seem to move as much these days.

How many fat kids do you remember seeing when we were growing up? You have to really think hard, don't you? There was always one fat kid in each grade but that's how rare it was back then. There was a stigma associated with it. Flash forward to today and it is now commonplace to see kids as young as 1st and 2nd graders bulging at the seams. It's sad.

Take the damned technology out of their hands and kick them outside. Also, as parents we are in charge. We control what they eat. I have never understood this mindset of letting kids eat whatever they want, whenever they want, just because they want it. Tough. I never had that crap in the house growing up. Just don't keep sh*t in the house. Cook healthy meals and have healthy snack options and they won't know any better. Junk food becomes a special treat, not a daily expectation. My 3 and 5 year old boys love edamame, fruits, veggies, and they eat literally anything we serve them. They eat what we eat. We have friends who make separate meals for the kids and that's just sending the wrong message to them.

Rant over. Looking forward to trying a Twinkie and Ho Ho again! It's been 20 years since I've had either one... :)
