any chance you'd be willing to share the file you created and used for the decal dial? would love to know how you got such clean lines on the lume application as well. many relumes i see are quite wavy and uneven. thanks in advance.

Desperate to get a case to start a similar build but can’t see a relevant case on rubys site - anyone got any ideas of a good base or case for the build?
Try contacting her on whatsapp, she often has parts not listed on the website or can source them.

Sure, here it is, along with the gen dial it is based on.

The lume work just takes practice. There's a few threads here with advice but basically it isn't too hard if you mix it to a consistency kind of like soft serve ice cream and then apply it to the center of the marker with a watch oiler, and gently push and float it toward the edges. If you get the consistency right it will form naturally soft and even edges, and you can carefully remove excess with a toothpick.

Thanks.. in the end I wasn't happy with the brass gilt dial so I swapped a 6538 dial in and sold this one. I plan to build another eventually though. It did look great on a tropic strap.

I have always enjoyed reading your posts/progress as I dabbled in the gilt dials. Out of curiosity, did you do anything to your decal dial to age it other than the lume? In the pics, your dial looks subtly faded.

Thanks. I didn't do anything specifically to age the dial. After I clear coated it, I used polishing cloths to try to bring it to a high gloss.. which kind of worked, but kind of just made it act like a mirror. It doesn't have the deep black look that it should. Here is a good pic that illustrates what I mean.. compare the black of the dial to the insert. The dial kind of just takes on a blue, green, brown, etc. sheen in different lighting situations.

Over time it has developed tiny crackles in the clearcoat, which makes it look aged I guess. I'm not really sure why.

I don't want to use this dial anymore so feel free to PM me if you want it. It looks good in photos but in person it's too dull. For the next one, I have to gold plate it and use a legit automotive clearcoat, and get better at polishing.

have you tried polishing the brass and applying the decal to it instead of just leaving the brushed/sanded surface?

Yeah I polished the brass to a mirror. It looks great in reflected light it's just that in shade it looks too dark to me, compared to the gilt Rolex dials I've seen. The chapter ring almost disappears.

ahhh alright, so the polished brass fares better than brushed brass though yes?
