Update 3: Reshaping crown guards part 1 and removing old crowb tube

I started reshaping the CG's yesterday. Used a good gen 9401 picture to get the right shapes and seizes. Biggest thing on these JKF 5513 cases are the fat crownguards and lugs. I decided to use my new big drill with an coarse sanding dremel piece. Just shaped till i got the right size. Almost burned my heands btw  use some globes when you do this kind of metal shaping with automatic tools.. i'm not used to this kind of work so will learn a lot of lessons during this project [emoji23]

OT: some pre-shaping pics JKF tudor case:

Not happy yet at this point. Decided to pick the files and get a rougher hand to take of the bigger pieces of metal at the CG's. After the rough work I worked the sanding pad on the drill again. Result:

So far so good. I'll be finishing the case with p400, 1200 and 2000 before polishing the case up next week.

BTW, before shaping the case I of course renoved the tube. Have been searching for this tool in my hometown for half a day

And as I expected.. the JKF tube doesn't has the original 3mm size. So I have to buy myself some extra tools again..

That's it for now. Thanks for watching

Nice work and update.

I have a watch case with similar bad fat crown and my Athaya 702 crown and tube won't fit too. Planning to send it to someone with the right tool to do the job but looking forward to how you do it.

Following the thread, really can not wait to see the final product! Keep up the great work. Can you please post a side by side shot of dials?

That's strange since I heard that Athay 702 crowns fit the JKF cases like plug and play.. what case do you have?

I bought a M3 x 0.35 tapset so when I succesfully completed it I can tell you whether it's a good buy/try or not haha

Thanks! I can't give you a comparison between the JKF blue snowflake dial and the blue Yuki, because I bought the black one. But here you go:

I don't know what case I have. I bought it used from Yahoo Auction Japan a while back not realising it was a rep at the time.... :(

I am building one myself, got the blue date version from seads and blue dial and hans from yuki. There's 2 thing that bothers me the most, minute hand is a bit too long and crown is too fat, I saw you got the Athay 702 crown, where do you get it from?

Thats nice! If you compare it to the original JFK tudor dial (pls see my post before) the yuki is the best you can get IMO.
I did look into the 702 from aya but I decided to put the gen 7030 tube with gen 703 crown on. It's the replacement crown if Tudor services it.. so good enough for me and a lot better then the fat and bolt JFK crown.

I will continue this project in about 3 weeks... there is some graduating to do so sorry for waiting :)))

How is this going?? I replaced my JKF crystal with a GS t-19 and it was too wide initially. I had to shave it down to 30.1mm outside diameter to fit. I'm curious as to how the Clark fits because I might replace this one with the Clark, possibly a super dome. BTW, with the service crystal on this watch, the bevel on the crystal only sits about 1mm above the bezel insert which is strange. It is almost flush, giving the appearance of a much lower profile than it should be. On my old cartel case it was sitting a good 2-2.5mm above.

Just finished it will post pics now :)) i picked the service crystal because i liked it on a 5512 i got on hands in Monaco. It gives the watch a thinner/smoother look and i like how it turned out. Pls see pics below and let me know your comments

This is the end result of months (with a few months graduation in between [emoji5]) on finding the right parts and screwing up a lot of 5512 cases... the tudor 9401/0 snowflake with mostly yuki parts and gen parts. Only case is original JFK.

WOW! Watch looks super sweet!!! If I may provide a little critique... The crown sits flush, but it's still a little tall - I might be wrong, but I think you need to provide a little recess in the case to allow the main crown to sit flush with the case. I can't seem to find the link of the crown install I had, but that's the only thing that stands out on this watch - it's a sweeeet build!!! Good work!!!

It's so much fun! If you get it right. Some watches have to pay the ultimate price for us to be able to learn. [emoji3]
