Here is my observation. I closely examined the photos and specifications of Andrew's "Ultimate Sub" which you linked.
I compared the photos, close-ups and serial #s (bracelet, case, clasp, hologram) to my VIPmariner 2nd generation, which I bought from Tim here on this forum. To my eye they are the same watch. Case, caseback, dial, cyclops and magnification, bezel, pearl, bracelet, clasp, hologram, and serial numbers are identical to the VIPmariner.
The only difference between these two watches is the movement and the "servicing".
Andrew's "Ultimate" sub has the ETA 2836-2 movement. The VIPmariner 2nd generation has an Asian 21 jewel movement. However the asian version in this watch is the high-beat 28,800 vph version. This beat rate is the same as the ETA 2836-2 movement, which in turn is the same as a real Rolex movement So the second hand should "sweep" just as smoothly in both watches.
To get the "Sheen finish" braclet polish that Andrew describes just get some MAAS polish at Ace hardware ($5.00) and go over the bracelet and clasp with a few strokes on a cloth. Bingo, same sheen and brightness as a gen. Also try a little silicone spray on the bracelet to get a smooth silky feeling. Works great. Bracelet then feels and looks exactly like a genuine one.
Now that only leaves the "Servicing" difference. How much and what quality of servicing is actually done on Andrew's watch? I can't say. I can say that I took my VIPmariner and had it pressure tested. It checked out to 6 ATM (60 meters or 198 feet) water resistant. However, Tim makes no claim as to the water resistance of the VIPmariner.
Andrew's "Ultimate" sub costs $488.00 delivered. Tim's VIPmariner 2nd generation costs $85.00 delivered, a $403.00 difference. The only certain, verifiable difference between the two watches is the ETA movement.
Is the movement difference and "servicing" worth $403.00 more to you? Only you can answer that.
I know I'm very pleased with my watch.
Keep us posted on what you decide.
