Hey all !

Im well aware of the differences that you can have between a gilt dial and a printed one. But sometime people are referring to "true gilt".
Does that mean that some gilt dials are printed ?
Where can I see a comparaison between a "gilt" and a "true gilt" ?
Wich TD sells gilt, "print gilt, and true gilt ?

Many thanks to light up my thought ! ;)

Cheaper gilt dials have the gilt element printed onto the black dial ground, in the same way conventional dials are printed. They aren't "true filt". On a true gilt dial, the markings on the dial are the dial surface - they're the negative "unprinted" part of the dial.

You'll only get true gilt dials as a separate item from a specialist seller, or as part of a build that someone has put together.

Check out this thread by Bart Cordell for a detailed discussion between members here, who print their own gilt dials.

Oh ok ! So for me, the « true gilt » is the gilt, and the « printed gilt » is just a printed ;)
do you know if ruby sells true gilt when she/he mark dials as « gilt » as opposed to her « print » ones ?
who else can sell true gilt ? Only MQ ? Phong maybe ?

My assumption would be (but only from looking at the dials) that if Ruby's say "gilt dial", then they're true gilt. There's other guys round here who really know this stuff. tripdog or Bart or manodeoro would be far more reliable sources of info than me. So maybe this message will get one of them on the case, before I lead you too far astray...

Unfortunately something's preventing me from replying with these guys tagged. The forum's been a bit flaky recently. So I've had to remove the tags from their names. See if @ tagging works for you.

This my most recent Mochacha dial Ive worked with
Its very nice quality but not true negative relief guilt.

This is a true gilt negative relief dial - (brass plate exposed through the text on the dial )
