Ok. I’m BRAND new to this so any advice and info is appreciated! I think I’ve decided I want a PAM127. Really what I want is “any” PAM that’s brushed steel finish, that has a simple nice dial, a 47mm case and a reliable movement. Seems the 127 fits the bill nicely but like I said I’m new to this! There may be others. I prefer a tan leather strap or black rubber but that’s minor as it can be easily swapped.

I’ve been in contact with some of the TD sites associated with this forum. I’m seeing that several of the TD’s have three general “brands” (is that the right term?). Noob, KW, V6. What’s the difference? What’s best? I want something that is going to last and Work and won’t fall apart or quit on me the first time it gets banged in to a wall or something (you know...shit happens). I’m not trying to fool anyone so it doesn’t have to be like indisigusgable from a gen or anything. Then again I don’t want to be going around wearing what is obviously a cheap fake knock off either!

Lastly, I found a site called marinamilitare dot something (net?). Anyway they sell these things for really low prices. I’m wary of them because the prices are suspiciously low and theyre not listed as TD in here. Anyone heard of them. Like I said I’m new so forgive me if I bring up something “taboo” or ask stupid questions.

There are 3 factories (not brands) that are making this watch. Noob, KW (or V6) and ZF. Of the three, Noob is most desirable, it was just re-released so you should be able to buy one from any TD.

As for Marinamilitare, they are into homages, not replicas. Homages copy the look, but not the exact watch. So the case design and dial may look somewhat like a PAM127, anyone who knows what a PAM127 is will know it's a cheap homage. The reason it's cheap is because the finishing isn't quite as good as the ones the reps get because they are copying the gen detail for detail.

Nothing is taboo per se, but all of what I said has already been posted and could have been unearthed if you searched. So plea;)se search the forums before asking. It would be such a waste of energy typing all of this out and then later somebody posts "PAM127 which version?" or something similar. ;) Oh and welcome to RWI. :D

Depends on what you want to spend.

if you want to spend 400 lr under get the noob version..

if you can spend @1k get the noob version and send it to Marlin in our modders section.

fyi the 127 "fiddy" is an iconic piece and a gen in brand new condition will fetch around 16-17k usd.

Any Paneristi or watch afficianido will notice a fiddy, it will definately draw attention..some guys will know right away its a fake, some wont.

if your looking for a reliable panerai that wont draw as much attention, check out 005 or 111 or even 004..these are @5-6k new and the h-fac 005 will be hard for anyone to call out without very closeup viewing...

welcome to the forum, I hope this is helpful!

Excellent advice domsdaddy. I’d already been seriously considering a PAM111 just been hesitant due to the “small” size (44mm). I think it would actually be a better option though. I hadn’t thought about the attention the watch might get! I just want one on my wrist.

Well I opted for the 111. Ordered one today from BK. Can’t wait!

Actually you should wait. BK is not known for his speed. Unless he gave you an estimate which would be just fine. Just calibrating your expectations.

He must have it in stock because he said he will ship it next week.

the noob with Marlins work is quite amazing ! next to my franken its pretty spot on over all. ive had three Marlin 127s now and finally only sold my last one because my franken is all gen aside from the case, but I still really didn't want to get rid of it because it was that good. If you can find one jump on it as you will not get better without using gen parts.

So yeah... I love the PAM 111.....
But the desire for the PAM 127 has not dissipated. I think I’m gonna have to have both.

Is this how the “addiction” starts?

Yes,
(Un)fortunately it is.
You’re probably already hooked without realising it.
I had the same thing and now own 12 PAMs orso.
Nothing to do about it but buying the models you like and keep track of your financial situation ;-).

Here is what I’ve ended up with.
Some changes already happened but you get the idea.

Hey @scottsvalley,
just came across your thread. I am also stuck between a 111 or a 127. Can I ask a few question;

1. What model is close to a 1:1 replica, the 111 or 127 (I know there is no such thing as 1:1). They both are consider NWBIG.
2. If you could do it all over again would you go for the 127 instead of the 111 a your first purchase?
3. Would you know or anyone why on the web intime theres 3 pam127 (2 at 408 and 1 at 338)?
4. Are there anyone else in the USA as a rep that you may know?

As you did not mention the OP he might not be able to answer right away. Here are my thoughts on the matter.
1. They are both close. The difference in "closeness" is immaterial. Buy what you like.
2. This is a personal decision, again buy what you like. It's a good choice either way.
3. Because there are 3 makers and they are priced at the time of release. ZF and V6F came out with their respective versions at the same time maybe 2-3 years ago. The Noob one is a re-release just a few months ago and would reflect what the current price for a PAM127 should be. Anyway, the Noob is the best version so good for you that you can get it for $338 or even less.
4. That question is unclear. If you mean TDs, then there are TDs in the US but bascially all TDs can ship to the US. If you mean members in the US, then check the sales section.

How is the crystal distortion on the latest noob?

It's more or less the same. No visible improvement or degrading in terms of visual clarity.

What a collection!

That certainly is. Wish I had a collection like that. :)

One thing that was brought up to me regarding the choice between a 127 and a 111 was the fact that the “fiddy” (PAM127) is a one of a kind piece, and they’re quite rare and iconic. Any “paneristi” would surely notice it straightaway and likely call it out as a rep.

Not that I’m trying to fool anyone or misrepresent the watches I wear as a gen, but I’d just as soon avoid the topic altogether. Anytime I’m asked about a rep watch I of course gladly explain that it’s a 1:1 replica and a fine watch in and of itself for a fraction the cost of a genuine one. People are entitled to their opinions and I’d never try to lie to anyone.

Anyway that stipulion was honestly what tipped me over to the PAM111 personally vs the 127. Of course now I want the 127 too so I’ll eventually do that.

As for a US based TD, I chose BK. Of course these reps are all manufactured overseas but BK is in the US and he does keep a “stock” of these. His prices are awesome considering the finished product and the custom care he gives!
