Why is so difficult (or impossible) to get gen parts for a BP, while for other models it's easier ?
I can't understand...

Probably it is not a such common Gen so to have gen spare parts is difficult.

the problem is that parts are rare and belong to an expensive watch (gen), and since the rep is pretty cheap, frequently, parts cost as much or more than the rep...

Is this the same model Times4direct sells for 129?

No. T4D's $129 is not nearly as accurate. Of course it is cheaper, but the one I posted earlier is way better for not much more money.

There are several 5004 versions floating around, most of them are not good in terms of accuracy.

Who would you say has the best?

In my opinoin the best would be a Vac built 5004 with Correct Lume & Chiefs AR. Add to that a Gen strap and you have a winner...

And heres a REALLY really bad pic of the above combo ;)

This is the best version, no question about it:

Replica Make sells it as well, but Lay is having problems with his website right now. You have to be careful with the 5004. There are quite a few versions floating around, and pretty much all of them are not very good in terms of accuracy.

It is really good as is. If you want to make it even better, have the mods performed as described by P8B.

Ive got to disagree. Probably the best version but the black strap with white stitching on the 5004BP just screams fake IMO. HKTAN or the Orloff ostrich black with black stitching are much more OEM looking. Or the one that andrew (trustytime) sells with the regular rep strap but with black stitching. Same price too.

Andrew, Lay, Josh and all other dealers get this watch from the same factory. If you order the black strap, it will likely be with black stitching, even though the picture posted on Josh's website shows white stitching (I ordered the exact model watch I posted, from Josh, and it showed up with black stitching, even though the pictures on his site show white stitching). I bought a black gator Orloff strap with white stitching. So, now I have black with black stitching, and black with white stitching, which gives my 5004-01 a very different look with a simple change of strap.

I totally disagree about your comment about the white stitching screaming fake, but understand if you have a different opinion. Different strokes for different folks. As you may know, gen Panerai owners buy all kinds of third-party leather straps and there are tons of third-party leather strap makers that cater to gen owners seeking to change up the look of their gen watch. Just like with Panerai, gen IWC Big Pilot owners purchase after-market leather straps all the time, from third-party makers, and these straps come in lots of different leathers, colors, stitching, rivets, no rivets, etc.

There is no rule that says you have to keep the original leather band that came with your watch. Also keep in mind there are quite a few different iterations of the Big Pilot made by IWC, some of which have unique straps, like the Big Pilot Perpetual Calendar, which comes from IWC with black crocodile with orange stitching. Gen IWC black crocodile straps don't all come with black stitching.

noob here.

i noticed earlier in the thread someone mentioned a good version of this watch with a WORKING power reserve... has anyone seen or confirmed this?

this looks like a great watch, but i don't like having faux features on a watch (even if it is a rep) and i was curious if anyone could confirm a quality rep with a working PR that i could buy. thanks!

there are versions with the working reserve, but they are not nearly as accurate as the non working reserve models. The subdial is in the wrong position. I'm no expert but I believe it has something to do with the design of the movement. To my knowledge there is not a "good" version with working PR. I agree with you, I don't like faux features either, but I have both working and non-working versions of this watch. In this case the Non-working version is far superior...

This question has probably been asked before, but is it still the case that the 5002 is better than the 5004? And if so, does anywhere still sell the 5002?
