Tiffany watches may not be of much interest to rep collectors but Tiffany has always had a unique corner of the jewelry biz. Generally when it comes to their watch collection you either like them or you don't but that could all change now that Swatch is buying yet another (their 19th) watch brand. When Swatch bought the Cartier and Bulgari lines their watch sales increased dramatically and now Tiffany will be getting bigger global recognition and some newer watch designs, and we will probably start seeing them in the catalogs starting next year. I like Tiffany mainly for the history of the company, 170 years in America.

Is your watch gen or rep?

I think my wife would love to own one (she goes nuts over Tiffany), but I don't want to spend 3K on her watch

It seems like Swatch is buying out everything. I used to work at a Swatch store, and they gave 50% discount on all the watches Swatch owned, including Omega. I totally missed out (I was in high school then).

The watch I have is a gen Tiffany Grand. Some of the Grand models are larger but I always liked the copper dial model which looks great with a gator strap. It will be interesting to see what type of new designs they come up with now that Swatch is taking over....wow 50% off would be nice.

Thanks for the information.

One of my friends bought his mom a Tiffany Grand (women's) and it was gorgeous - but I think hers was a quartz watch - yours seems to be 6498 movement maybe?

I guess there are no good Tiffany replicas out there as of yet.

(Yes, 50% is crazy. I heard Swatch also owns Blancpain too. I wish I was more into watches then ;) )

Swatch Group, Richemont, etc... are becoming more of Switzerland watch industry in the past. They are transitioning to huge cartel, controlling prices, etc.

I don't know actually, it was a long time ago (when I was in high school)... and i didn't care enough then to know whether movements could be purchased at discount. If you know someone who works at Swatch retail shops, ask :)

Some of the Tif auto watches use Eta movements but mine happens to be a swiss quartz resonator. Long as I own the watch they will clean and replace battery for free, so it's nice to have one watch that is no maintenance and no long term cost either. :)

I wonder if they still do that. I should go work at a swatch store for a while just to get the discounts.

EDIT: damn! I'd have to drive 2 1/2 hours down to Portland, OR for work so that probably makes it a bit too challenging to pull off.

bz, are you located in Seattle? I am originally from there ^^ (I was just there for the holidays)

I used to work at the Bellevue Swatch store @ Bell Square. They closed down a while back though.

it was not the best working environment, but certainly the discount was great haha
