You want my honest opinion -

Spend it - wee granny would have wanted you to - what on .....hmmm

Definately a Heuer Autavia http://vintageheuer.com/heuerwatches.htm

or buy second hand - Watches of Switzerland and Goldsmiths both do preowned. WoS had a nice Omega PO in their window £1250 - very nice.

good luck what ever you do - remember wee granny wanted you to have it to make you happy

I say but a few reps and see which one you wore the most at the end of a year...

I change my favorite watch every week but last month before I found this site I wore the same Seiko Giugiaro Design Dive Watch for 6-7 years..

You know you have the right watch when people say they like your watch..
I dont think that will happen with a Sub.

Rolex watches will depreciate, but at a lower rate than other watches

But all the ADs I have talked to said they are the only watches that always appreciate.

On a serious note - when you drop a few thou on a watch you will probably have it a very long time (i.e. a Rolex or something similar can be passed to your kids and will probably out live you if you treat it right). So, just buy the watch you love and leave it at that. If the price goes up - great - if the price goes down you won't care (kind of like buying your house, with just a lot less zeros on the end....well at least in CA).

Hmmm, I'd definiatly buy SH. Why buy new when there are so many good deals around ATM. I'd buy anything but Rolex for the simple reason that why buy something that every man and his dog id gunna think is a rep? Personalu I'd go for a nice Speedy Moonie and pocket a few bucks. Or a Briet if that's what takes your fancy. Have a looky at http://www.grayandsons.com for some idea of US prices if thinking of buying over seas. They tend to be a bit more expensive than average but service and fully warrent their stock.

Rolex's depreciate, hmmm...I have a gen 168000 sub that would fetch anywhere between £2300-£3800 looking at sales on TZ, E-bay, TRF etc...wonder what it cost new in 1987???

Thanks guys, some really solid advice here!! Think ill go for a breit over a rolex purely because you seem to get more band for your buck, so to speak. i.e. they are cheaper and look more technical. LOL!! (allthough it would be nice to have a rolex just to have a rolex if you know what i mean) lol

I showed this to my wife and she said that is what you should get for our 20th Anniversary. I would have never purchased this just looking at pictures. But I haven't looked back on it either. Best advise I ever got for a watch purchase.

Hi beany, maybe this website can help. Even if you don't find a specific watch there, you can use to know the market price of some given models.

Hope the best for your purchase.
