I actually ordered a strap off amazon and another off ebay. They're suppose to come in today or tomorrow and they're advertised as 5mm thick with some good reviews.

Please post some quarantine pics, looking forward to this !

l made a proto out of Swedish military surplus.
Fat, but not as soft. 8 mm. I now understand why straps are expensive. Took forever to make it. :)

I got both straps, unfortunately I can't find my screwdriver so I have to wait until that comes in.

Both straps do not taper and are 24mm throughout.

This amazon one is a legit 5mm thick.

This ebay one is right in between 4.5 and 5mm.

The amazon one has the edges treated while the ebay one has nothing. The amazon one is slightly softer but both have very similar feel, feels fairly pliable being brand new; I'm sure they'll both conform pretty quickly.

The buckle on the amazon one is held in with a pin. Not sure how it's attached as both ends look exactly the same. The ebay one is via screw

I’m glad Dr Phil started making some straps out of some nice horween leather. Some of his straps are made from inexpensive materials but some of... actually, most of them are great and they’re a great price.

Like pam boy, I asked him to make me a few straps and when I’ve done that, they always seem to be made with the better materials.

I remmeber looking for one specific strap. Like I had this idea in my head of what I wanted the strap to be and I started searching for it and couldn’t find it anywhere. After a long search, I found it on corrigia. For $279. Fvck that.

Over the course of 2 months I emailed like 9 strap makers and asked them about it and they all said it looked too difficult to make. I emailed Dr Phil and he said “I’ll give it a try”. Like a week later he emailed me pics of this strap (2 straps/versions actually) that looked exactly like the corrigia strap and I was afraid to hear the price. Lol- one was really thick and one was slightly thinner with slight variations.

He gave me a price of $39 and said he’d post the other on his eBay for $49. Damn, you can’t beat that. After a few weeks I emailed him and just because I am a compulsive spender i asked “how much for that 2nd strap (the one you have listed for $50 on eBay).” And he sold it to me for $30.

He's is a good dude who does good work at a very fair price. The trick is to stick to the good leathers.

So anyway... sorry for the long post but the moral of the story is, with Dr Phil, in my experience when doing custom work his prices are even more reasonable.

I have some Corrigias too, they're awesome, (e.g. Quarantuno 41 below)
But it's definitely worth thinking about paying $ 270 for a corrigia or to pay about $ 70 for a custom strap from Phil. The price ratio is unbeatable!

I agree. It all depends on what you’re looking for and the leather you want. I have a few corrigia and they’re great but you don’t always need.... what is it they do?
From their site....
  • Corrigia straps are only built with historical folding and sewing techniques from 1960s. (we only use old antique awl, antique leather knife ,antique plane and antique tools)

I’ve been meaning to ask and contemplated starting a thread to ask. What are the numbers? What do the numbers you often see, represent!

The 1.... the 41.... the 74 that you see on straps all the time. What are those numbers and what do they have to do with Panerai?
