Got a topic related question:
My SO has an about two years old TT DJ from BPF which had once a quite nice resemblance with the original Everose gold of Rolex... Now, this "rose gold" became an ugly, orange hued copper like color.

Is there anything I can do to get the "original rose gold" color back apart from a fresh gold plating? I mean, is there a quick fix like polishing or any other treatment?

Obviously, if this plating was real rose gold in the beginning (how ever thin it was), it shouldn't show such an extreme discoloration, or?

Please help me out with your experience.

I've had success so far using GENTLE polishing with cape cod polishing cloths. The chemical compound on the cloths also have the added benefit of slowing down future tarnishing, which will happen again from my experience.

Jonj480 offers polishing services that are second to none. You can ask him if your watch is able to be restored.

Thanks mate for sharing this good experience

From my experience, the gold on the wrapped watch is a much richer color. Almost a little too rich for some as they can appear orange or even brassy. I’ve found that the wrapped version looks excellent in natural light and not so great in low light/indoor conditions “regardless, they’re still beautiful pieces.”

However, I’ve talked to Rolex dealers “trusted friends who are also in the rep game” about the wrapped color and I’ve been told they replicate real 18k gold better than the plated versions.

The plated watches I’ve seen have gold that appears to be on the lighter side. Some prefer this when comparing to gen gold, and some do not. It’s a personal thing I guess?

Bottom line is, it’s impossible to replicate real gold 100% and when you compare to your buddies gen gold Rolex, it’s tough to say what’s what. The gen gold color seems to be highly dependent on year of the watch, amount of sun exposure, etc. I have a gen gold bluesy sub from the early 90’s and it’s certainly a different looking gold compared to a brand new model match. A friend has the same gen watch but 2 tone and his gold looks more yellow and flat to me when comparing gen to gen.

Just my 2 cents... there will be those who disagree with this sentiment.

Whether you like the gold on the VRF or not, I can attest to the superior “fit n finish/feel” compared to some cheaper plated versions I own. Guess that’s what you get for an extra $400?

Very informative
thanks!

Hey anytime!

Tripdog said it best. We pay a very small percentage to wear nearly the same thing.

It’s either a rep or spending 18-23k on a preowned YG depending on the year and that’s quite a step up!

I wear my reps way more than my gens so there must be something to this game of ours.

Since this whole thread is about Wrapped gold it seems like the perfect place to post these comparison pics between BP Wrapped vs VRF Wrapped

A few notes 1st:

-Comparison is taken from the spare links of my BP Wrapped DD40 which is the same Wrapped gold used if you ordered any BP Wrapped sub. The other is a link from my newly acquired VRF 116613 sub.

-Pics were taken under both direct light and in shadow for comparison.

-No filters or touch ups were used.

Now I will let the pics speak for themselves enjoy :)
