We have all been showing off big guns, but what about the little ones? I like those too and we all have them! Here's my Ruger MKIII in .22LR with a red dot on top.

Very nice I'm going to get the Colt M4 rimfire soon. 22 are the wave of the future.

I love 22s!
When I am at the range all alone the best thing to shoot is 22s.
Don't need hearing protection, subsonic 22s available, when standard velocity is shot out of a long barrel there is enough barrel space to burn all the powder and reduce the bang significantly.
Easier to walk to 25, 50 yard target stands than to 100, 200 yard target stands.
20x scope at 50 yards lets you see your bullet holes without a spotting scope.
When just punching holes in paper, how big a hole do you need and why deal with more noise and recoil than is necessary to punch that hole?
I have 10 22s from a custom 1911 to an Anschutz rifle and all sorts in between.
When I head to the range during a weekday I pack some 22s and hope no one else is there so I can shoot in quiet and enjoy the sounds of nature without plugs in my ears.
I see all sorts of guys blasting away with magnums just to punch small holes in a paper target.
Leave your "Macho Man" at home and take 22a to the range!

Donald, what upper is on your .22? Marvel, Kimber, Ciener, etc? I've had a Kimber and Wilson Combat, and now I use a longslide compensated Marvel Precision Unit 1 upper. This is my Steel Challenge rimfire pistola.

The slide says CENTAUR. It was made for me by a gunsmith about 15-20 years ago before Kimber and Wilson had their conversion kits out. I also bought a Ciener conversion kit and used it on a 1911. That one was set up to be interchangeable, 45 to 22 and back, by swapping parts. I still have it around but don't use it because I just pick up the regular Centaur 22 or the regular Kimber 45 when practicing. Never take time to perform a conversion anymore. It was an interesting project to see how different parts in the upper make a different handgun but much easier to use two guns rather than convert back and forth. I never purchased a Kimber or Wilson 22 upper conversion kit because I already had two before they came out but I would think both Kimber and Wilson would be superior to the two I have.

One issue I found with my 22 conversions was too many jams from a failure to fully eject. I thought something was wrong with the ejector. After much experimentation I found the answer was to stop using the thick lube Wilson recommends for 45s and use the much thinner Remington/Browning gun oils or the WD-40/Wonder-Lub type lubricants. The 22s don't have the power to always fully cycle parts covered with thick lube like 45s do. I don't know if this is an issue with Kimber and Wilson Combat conversion kits.

Kimber = Ciener
Wilson = Marvel Unit 2

In actuality there's only a few .22 upper manufacturers out there. +1 on the lube. I use TetraGun white lithium grease on my Wilson CQB but a .22 won't fully cycle with that. I have to use a thin oil.

miniguns must be fun to shoot for a few seconds; but not fun to load the belts for a few hours in order to get those few seconds!

Here are my 22's

I've been browsing RWI for some time now and this is the first time I noticed the "gun lovers" forum.

Anyway, I've been shooting for about 30 years now, and I have a few favorites in different calibers, including the 2 guns below.

The Buckmark is absolutely dead on and my all time rimfire favorite. At 15 yards I can group a 10 shot magazine in a 2" bulls-eye. I used to shoot a Ruger Mark II, but after I got the Buckmark, I never went back.

The Walther is the latest addition and I'm still learning it. I'm not very good with it, and I don't have tight groups with it yet. The Red Dot is mostly for fun at the moment, and it really doesn't help with the groupings.

I have found that a red dot or scope helped significantly reduce group size on any handgun I tried them with. I expect it is simply a matter of them giving a more precise and repeatable sight picture than I can obtain with the basic iron sights.

It looks like the Walther has a much shorter barrel. Perhaps that is the cause of your reduced group size. Try shooting it from a pistol rest and use the smallest dot size you can.

Ok... just snapped some pics using the flash and against a terrible background, etc. Why? Because I'm too lazy to A) set up the light box, and B) clean the gun. :anopsis: So no cracks about the crappy pics (I'm lookin' at you, JC7).

This is my Steel Challenge rimfire gun, hence all the race gear.

1911
Marvel .22LR 6" longslide upper with compensator
Caspian Ex Recon frame (overrun from Sig Sauer production)
Alumagrips and Magwell
Wilson Combat small parts
Dlask ultralight trigger (aluminum bow and magnesium shoe)
Tasco ProPoint red dot
Safariland race holster, belt, and mag pouches
Trigger pull is currently 1.1 pounds.

Here's a shot of how it's located on my hip. It sits forward, canted slightly back, and away from my body so it's in line with the target.

The dot is 5 MOA but it's flaring because I have the brightness all the way up for the photo.

I'm pretty sure you already know I was kidding. All the guys at my club run them for steel in rimfire open. I just couldn't believe it when I first saw them, but they are competing for hundredths of seconds for the win. Steel matches are soooo deceptive. It looks so easy until it's your turn to shoot.

Whoa, yeah, I know you were kidding - and so was I. Although I DO shoot competitively I'm not one to (other than in fun) challenge anyone. You know as well as I do, there's always somebody faster!

I was killing time at the range today and took a couple .22s with me. GSG-5 and Marlin 39A.
