The new "40th anniversary of apollo 11" moon watch

Well the Cubs winning the World Series is ALOT more likely than anyone landing on the moon (past, present or future).
And as someone who grew up at Wrigley Field, even I can admit the Cubs may never win the World Series.

There is one at ufantazone! I think I'll be getting that next. That watch drives me mad it is so cool! I'll let you know how it is when I get it if some of you don't beat me to it! [smilie=alien.gif]

It doesn't seem like a good rep. Why can't they ever get the chrono features right on the speedmaster moon watch? And the gold "eagle on the moon" at 9:00 is the rep for the gold/platinum version of the watch of which only 69 are being made. Why not do the SS version? Strange.

Also, does anyone have a photo of the back on the gen. Apollo 11 watch? I haven't seen it yet. But if I had to guess, I bet it's not a plain "see-through" glass back. If it's see-through, its got to at least be painted like the "snoopy" watch.

From the Omega web site

"Two OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch Apollo 11 “40th Anniversary†Limited Edition watches celebrate the adventure: one in stainless steel and sterling silver (7,969 pieces); the other in platinum and 18 Ct yellow gold (69 pieces)."

I like the stainless steel much better...the "gold" emblem looks gaudy and cheap. Way too busy for me.

I guess I don't get what's wrong with the chronometer function? They look the same to me...unless the functions are different/inaccurate? I'm an idiot, please clarify!

The GENS have the following chrono functions:

The "second hand" at 12:00 indicates chronograph seconds. It stays at 12:00 unless the button at 2:00 is pushed to start the chrono.

Then There are three subdials - two are part of the chrono function and 1 is part of the time function.

The 6:00 subdial indicates chronograph-hours
The 3:00 subdial indicates chronograph-minutes
The 9:00 subdial indicates time seconds for the Speedmaster time function. It is always moving as long as the watch is wound.

Note that all three chronograph hands are at "zero" and are not moving. The chronograph hands do not move unless unless the button at 2:00 is pushed to start the chrono.

The best REPS I've seen - get all the dials correct except the dial at 6:00. I have no idea why.

The cheap automatic REPS don't come close.

They have a sweeping second hand and no working chrono at all.

Don't know about the quartz.

Awesome!!!!!

Too bad the caseback is wrong. I understand the gen is a display back with the Apollo 11 patch logo painted on it.

Would love to see it, if anyone has a photo.

Just saw, that there are finally reps of both editions available and honestly - I'm dissapoointed.
Just compare the pics linked below, there are too many differences:

Genuine:
http://watches.infoniac.com/uimg/omega- ... y-dial.jpg

Rep from watcheden:
http://www.watcheden.com/pic.php?p=UCEJ ... NSPAM1UjQ=

As you can see, there seem to be some differences, which are imho not acceptable for a 285$ rep, cause corrections would not cost the world:
- incorect text fonts on the bezel, just compare the 110 i.e.
- the accent on tachymètre is missing
- the engraving of the eagle on the silver plate is not really good -->some hq pictures of the rep would be helpful
- the caseback seems to be incorrect. The 35th anniversary edition of the apollo 11 had a caseback with painting:
http://www.chronomaddox.com/omega/watch ... i_back.jpg

Honestly,now that I saw,that theres a rep of the 40th ann. edition,I'm very happy,but I prefer waiting for a better version.I hope there will be a rep v2;)

I agree that the rep is disappointing for the money, but I honestly wouldn't hold my breath for a better version. For reasons that mystify me, the rep makers have never really focused on a putting out a decent Moonwatch, and I don't think they're going to start now. It's odd to me that we can get really fantastic reps of bizarre and obscure (and obscenely expensive) watches like the DeWitt or Concord C1, but we can't get even decent versions of famous watches like the Moonwatch.

One will end up with the gen ;) It has beautifully made Lemania based movement.

This watch is classy and definitely carries a story to talk about being the first watch worn on the moon.

Any repmaker that puts out a moonwatch with the correct working dials and a proper caseback is going to get a ton of orders

And that goes double if any of them do a respectable copy of the faces and display backs of any of the "special edition" moonwatches -- like the 40th anniversary Apollo 11.

Are any of you Repmakers listening?

Hope so.
