Saw someone ask a local liquor store employee to procure them a bottle the other day. Peaked my interest; is it that good???

I was also thinking that a Cuba Libre sounded perfect at the time...

Congrats on the 400th post!!

Gonna have to look for this...

Meanwhile has anyone here tried Whaler's Original Dark rum? It's very smooth and flavorful. More of a straight up type drink than a mixer.

I wonder how it compares to Kraken Black.

Just bought a bottle for the holidays. It was the perfect compliment to the mulled wine I make every year for Christmas Day. Bye bye Captain...

Sipping it neat; It's surprisingly opaque, very nice spice and just enough "heat" to balance the sweetness. Made me think of sunshine, white sand, turquoise blue water and, as with most liquor, smoking a good cigar.

It also melds well (maybe too well) with Coke and a big squeeze of lime.

Plus, I love shouting "RELEASE THE KRAKEN!!!" each time I pour some.

Excellent stuff.

Well, I'm sold. Will pick up a bottle this weekend. :)

Ah. If you want a beautiful rum, you cannot beat Zacapa. It is filtered through the thighs of guatamalen virgins. We not quite, but it is the only rum made from virgin sugar cane and is distiller in the mountains above Guatamala. It has just been voted into the top 100 luxury brands in the world.

It is stunning..... One sip over ice or a Zacapa cubre libra or a Zacapa mojito - and you will never, ever go back....

All this talk of rum is making my thirsty...

Nice to see scandinavian folklore getting some recognition =) At first Krake was used to describe a thin crocked dry tree and dates back as much as 1000 years or even more. In The Poetic Edda, one man was called Ragnar Krake, presumably because he was tall and lanky. Krake nowadays translates in scandinavian to: poor and pitiful person and is also usually used to describe a gaunt horse = horse krake. The name Krake has also been given to the mythological norwegian and icelandic sea creature in accordance to old sailor traditions.

Release the Kraken!

Kraken + Coconut Water = Perfect Drink

Which coconut water? Been on a health kick the last 7 months; figured as mixers go the offset is tremendous. Haven't found "the one" yet.

Otherwise, two fingers, a couple cubes and a big wedge of lime... And a cigar...

And some boobies when "handy". ; )

Zacapa Centurios is awesome. But I find the Kraken rather thin. Give me OVD any day. Delish
