Sorry but I'm a firm believer that IQ tests are complete rubbish. I can assess someone's intelligence more accurately by sharing a few beers with them on a Friday night...

No need to be sorry... you're not the first person to voice that sentiment. I think some IQ tests are not without scientific merit; no test is bias-free but we have gone a long way since Binet. Now, if you had argued that IQ test scores are not predictive of a whole lot and thus have limited actual value, I would tend to agree that the jury is definitely still out on that... despite what those who "swear by IQ tests" want to argue!

As for the beer-sharing method, I've met a few guys who get pretty smart after a few beers, do you take that in consideration in your assessment?

Ok, I should have clarified. By rubbish I meant predictive or indicative of nothing useful. I emphasise "useful". And to be frank, I tend to see IQ scores as a liability on a CV, as anyone I have ever interviewed or assessed who mentioned an IQ test was usually just trying to divert attention from the fact that the CV lacked substance. :wink: In a way, my point was that a better indicator of someone's "intelligence" is perhaps their actions and achievements, as well as their behaviour in a setting that is not controlled. Also, sadly many so-called intelligent people have a complete lack of emotional intelligence. And who's to say which type of intelligence is best or deserves being measured? At best an IQ test is just as useful as a GMAT or similar tests. You can cram for them and improve your score. But I need to be convinced that they say anything about a person's actual intelligence. But perhaps the issue is merely definitional here? I.e., what do we mean by intelligence?
