I just joined and don't know much about it. Was smitten by an IWC Portuguieser and ended up here unable to afford the real thing without the other half chopping me into pieces. Have how been smitten by Panerai. Oh dear oh dear. Reading and reading, wanting to learn about the minutae. I may eventually buy but even the cost of a rep surprises me. They ain't cheap. Used to the el cheapo gifts I got from Turkey as a kid. The quality of work in some of these watches is stunning however. I'm just relying on the great advice and work in this here forum.

I bought a breitling in Turkey for £70 and it broke in two days! Looking to pick up my first replica but learning so much slowly on this forum.

I'd like to see all the links to all the watches in the signatures but i can't bring myself to go down to the sales section and post 10 "good luck with selling"

I hope it gets better.

It certainly does get better, just a matter of time buddy. I also joined the forum recently like you and have been soaking in everything like a wide-eyed child. Picked up three watches from the m2m forums in the meantime and will likely get in trouble at work given how much time I spend here every day. If anything, I'm a nerdier watch nerd than I already was before being here.

Week-old noob here and I'm so glad that this thread was done. Same thought process for me but I'm quickly learning lots! And, it's great to see how supportive everyone is. Can't wait until I pull the trigger and make my 1st purchase!

We were all noobs once!

When I joined RWI/RepGeek back in 2011, I had no idea about watches.

Now I know almost too much about the damn things!

Come chat....it's the fast track to knowledge and zen.

This is the best advice any noob will get. When I joined here I immediately jumped in the chat box and learned all I could at the feet of The Noob Messiah. The regulars in the box try to help out in real time and try to educate and steer the noob in the right direction. I'd also suggest reading up on the brand forums. But the best way to get involved is to jump in feet first and start participating.

As a newbie here, I get your feeling, fortunately everyone seems to be polite and helpful.
