Hey, since I am new to the whole replica game, I'm turning to you for a recommendation on the best Explorer replica.

Which factory is the best, with which movement? Currenty it seems like the best one is EXPLORER I 214270 39MM ARF 1:1 BEST EDITION 904L SS CASE AND BRACELET SH3132 but I've read on reddit some guy complaining about ARF and saying BP is way better.

I'm not going to resell it ever, so the main point of the purcahse is that it looks the best (as close to the original) and that the movement holds up.

Any thoughts?

DO YOUR FUCKING RESEARCH!

That's exactly why I made this thread, to aid my research

Doesn't hurt to give an opinion on either of the versions, but hey, if that helps your ego, be my guest

That's exactly why I made this thread, to aid my research

Here are some areas that you'll want to specifically research:
  • Movement and reliability. If you're looking for an explorer I, you'll want to research the VR3230 vs SA3132 movements. If you're looking at the Explorer II, you'll want to research the CHS movement options including SA3187, A3186, and A2836 movements. There's also an ongoing thread about the possibility of modding a VR3186 movement to work with the different date window placement on the Explorer II.
  • Dial. If you're looking for a Polar Explorer II, you'll want to look into which factory gets close on the hour marker vs dial white match -- spoiler: none. So you'll want to research the cost and availability of a gen dial.
Next, you'll want to research all the standard stuff about a rep rolex: bracelet quality, SEL fitment, crown guard shape, lug shape, etc...

Good luck and enjoy the ride. Half the fun of reps is the research, the other half is wearing them.

If you were thinking BP with a ARF bracelet. Trusty Time sell ARF bracelets for 195USD. Put a Swiss ETA in it and I think that’s the best you’ll get.

You literally asked a version of the worst most hated question ever. There is a wealth of information here. Use Google to find it and READ. You'll find all the info you need to make an informed decision for yourself.

That’s very unfair, there is very little info on the arf explorer. I know because I’ve looked for about 3 years.

I bought the arf and in itself it is a beautiful watch. I would report and I’ve seen reported elsewhere that there are issues getting the crown stem to engage with the movement when winding but it has always managed it in the end.

The dial does not look as gen as the BP. The corners of the indices are too squared and the indices themselves are too narrow. The 3 is like the 114270 so that is not at all like the 214270 gen.

The quality of the case, bracelet, clasp and crystal is unbelievable. Now where the info is really lacking is whether the qualities I have mentioned outweigh the fact that the BP dial is more gen like.

That’s a comparison I have never really found to be addressed. I am tempted to buy the BP just to find out. A lot of people have said that a combination of arf bracelet and BP watch head is the best solution.

Also, contrary to my quoted friends take a lot of threads on replica explorer 1’s go off topic very quickly or descend into flaming like this one has.

Thanks for the Info. I saw a BPF model at a TD. Is it actually identical to the BP Model?

some guy complaining about ARF and saying BP is way better.
What was the complaint about? This is as good as not saying much beyond factory preference.

that the movement holds up.
Based on your research, what movement are we comparing here?

Now where the info is really lacking is whether the qualities I have mentioned outweigh the fact that the BP dial is more gen like.
Well, questions like this are subjective. just like how people will argue whether SEL or CG is a better compromise.

can we just help each other instead of being the 1st ass hole to shut a guy down? this isnt military grade secrets here...

I've read all the threads about the Explorer I on this forum, what you are asking for can be very very easily found if you bothered to read (carefully or not). These various threads go down to detailed comparisons like about how a certain marker differs in the ARF and the BP, and how the quality of the bracelets compare. Also, there's the talk about the movements, and how they operate in different directions.

If you folks with "New Members" have not read this information prior and are complaining about other members not helping each other out, then obviously, you are just being entitled at this stage. I honestly not sure if it's ironic or hypocritical to call others names in this case.
