Hey there, little update from me.
I recently updated my 1016 because I was not happy with the dial

I decided to go for a matte dial from Mochacha with ETA feet.
In the process, I also replaced the ETA 2840 with an ETA 2840-P movement (it has dial feet holes).

I serviced the thing and I'm really happy with the timegrapher results

Here are a couple of pictures of the build

And the final result

Very nice! I have 2 2840 flying arround too but was not sure how to proceed with the dial feet situation. When I google it with the "p" there are unfortunately no results. Do you have some more info perhaps? Could i swap all the components on a 2824 Baseplate?

Hey, I wrote a post here about the movement.
It's basically the same as the 2840 but with holes for movement tabs and dial feet.

Yes, I think you can use a 2824-2 mainplate.

AFAIK, The only differences are:
  • Mainspring
  • Hairspring
  • Escape wheel?
  • Pallet fork?
I'm not a 100% sure, so you'll have to verify

Unfortunately some paint on the side of the dial started chipping. Those things are very fragile. I don't think I mishandled it.

Does anyone knows how to touch up the dial? Acrylic paint, sharpie...
Cheers

common issue with viet dials as of late. very very very delicate.
definatly acrlyic do a small sample to match color. you may have to add a touch of white to the black to get the match perfect. been there done that.

ask me about 2 dials on my bench that I have from various sellers where the lume has just fallen off....completely released from the dial overnight. they focus on making the lume and finish looking so old and vintage that it doesnt adhere to the dial .
Ive had 5 lume plots fall off one dial!! luckly I am skilled enough to reattach them, but I shouldnt have to!! thats the point ...especially what you pay for these parts!!

In comp[arison. it took some vigorous rubbing with multiple passes to remove the lume from a raffles dial using acetone. like almost had to scrub it off the dial lol

350 compared to 35

I stripped the printing off two raffles dials with Dawn dishwashing liquid after the colour I used on the lume stripped the top coat.

So I am going to just assume we all have a half dozen or so dials laying about that we have mangled.
