Tariffs and fees are LIVE -- it's not a flat fee. IT IS PER ITEM!

so reports all over are coming thru.. we are sort of isolated and slow because let's face it we don't order a lot of watches all the time but those who regularly use AliExpress and order a lot from china of other things besides reps.. the tariffs and fees are indeed LIVE. So the $32.71 minimum I posted about? It is NOT a flat fee. IT IS PER ITEM.

Here is an example..

SAID EXAMPLE was by a poster who mentioned his specifics: 3 fishing rods from China and that total included the $32.71 fee, 10% tariff and UPS fees)
- breakdown: $32.71 x3 = $98.13 + 10% tariff = $30 and then ups fee of $13.30 x3 ($39.90) = $168+

reports all over from AliExpress also mention ridiculous fees now.. someone got hit with a $165+ fee on a $125 item. People who rely on ali-family and china for their businesses are all wondering what to do now since the fees are ridiculous!

what's interesting to me as details and real life report come in are this:
- $32.71 minimum fee PER ITEM
- this is for UPS, FEDEX, DHL, whatever shipping company you thought you could get away with is not the case
- it's basically relegated to the customer/receiver whether or not to pay the cost before the package is even delivered.. WOAH! it's basically held by customs until payment is rendered

so to those here in RWI who are business owners (Caboose, etc).. i am sure you will soon realize the impact. And as far as those who have ordered already.. I wonder what kinda surprise awaits you once your piece hits us cbp..

crazy. crazy!!!! Thought it was $32.71 per package .. turns out it's PER PIECE!! This actually cements some posters here who mentioned how for the first time ever they've received packages that have clearly been "opened and inspected" wheras it never was before.

... crazy times my friends, crazy times.. you still gonna order?? I'm actually crying right now because I was ready to place another 10KG order for some LV clothing/etc... but if it goes per piece.. let's say I order 10 items from china.. well, that's at least $320 in fees alone I am staring at  honestly not sure what to do right now except well, not

someone else reported they paid $175 in fees .. 10KG haul, 11 items (clothing etc).. so that's like $15 per item fee extra. I asked what their declared value of the package was and what they paid originally to get it shipped from china (usually this is $130+)

others have also reported that basically once customs releases the package, it's the shipping company that ultimately collects from you..

I don't think it will be so different than it is in Europe right now. We do pay 22% vat on declared value + a fixed handling fee charged by courier which may be 10 to 20 euro.
So for example my last order from cousins UK was 197 gbp (236 euro) and I had to pay 57.40 import fees on top when it was delivered.

The difference is that we Europeans pay the handling fee per package and not per individual item. If it is really the case, as @tomriddle writes, and the fee is charged for each individual item, that's a big difference. I don't know how and where you order. A friend of mine, who also moddes at a hobby level and does simple watchmaker work, orders his replacement parts (e.g. replacement movements) from China, and here the value of the goods per item is often lower or roughly the same as the fees mentioned here.

Lol this is gonna be brutal for small businesses like people who do etsy / handmade goods, seiko modders who don't import bulk.

But part of me is fine with this. Guess I'll just halt consumption and put more towards savings.

Majority of America voted for this. And the only way to change anything is to compromise the American wallet and make life painful. Hit enough businesses, people, supply chains, maybe it'll actually motivate people to do something instead of the civic/political apathy that exists now

But the majority of the Rednecks were not able to foresee this due to lack of further education and/or blindness towards the facts.
I think it was a good majority of rich folks hopping on this train too. Honestly, I feel a lot of this, from my POV, was, "do anything to get our previous administration replaced." I'm not stating my views in any sense, but only how I see it. Education won't change some people from making emotionally biased choices.

Life goes on with 10kg hauls of fakte LV-cloths. But if it´s really per item watchmakers and members who order watchparts from China are really f***ed. That´s real bad news.
but i need my fake LV clothes.. was holding out during the holidays because funds were short.. then CNY hit.. and now this

i'll be damned if i get hit with $300+ in fees on top of $150shipping on top of $500+ or whatever i would've spent on the fake designers

sigh.. damnitall

i am thinking of workarounds.. already i see people asking for "cosigners" aka people in say, Canada to get the hauls shipped there and then for them to send the packages to usa because then it won't come from China.. and i do have cousins in Canada right now so that may be a viable workaround. But so far I'm trying to see what companies are strict on fee collection. So far: ups, fedex, dhl.. i'm not sure about usps yet but i have been asking around hoping for personal reports/experiences

Too early to tell give it like 2 months and we'll see what's up. But if it's anything to go by I highly doubt those fashionrep hauls will pass through easily anymore

my fear as well.. it's one thing to be hit with the fees from legit businesses procuring materials from china

it's another thing to be hit with the fees and have the hauls inspected and see the designer stuff.. so it's either pay up the actual value of said fakes or go thru the customs process etc

i'm just sad as hell cuz i wanted 1 last haul before i take it easy for a while :( damn.. this past 12 months just been crazy with pandabuy and the crackdowns and just.. too much stuff going on

i echo what others here have said :( the rep world ain't the same no more

Yes, that's what an import tax is - taxes on imported goods that the purchaser/importer pays, not the government or the manufacturer in the country of origin, which seems to have been a big point of confusion for many, including Tronald Dump.

Under my blankie
That´s the main point.
And what we are seeing right now is just the beginning of a crazy spree of decrees from this crazy moron.
But the majority of the Rednecks were not able to foresee this due to lack of further education and/or blindness towards the facts.
Sorry guys, but you had it coming.
Agreed. People vote for things they don’t understand. Dumb people think they are smart and right and when they are hit due to their own stupidity they justify it.

Unfortunately those few who saw this coming but can’t do anything about it also get hurt.

So perhaps it’s best if prices just go beyond what these ppl can’t afford for real then we’ll see if it’ll open their eyes and be a little smarter in the future
