Of course in a close-up you can find the real thing, especially if it's a market tye-in, or you get actors that want to wear their own watches, I doubt if they make Sly wear a fake Panerai; Jason Statham is well-known for wearing his own Panerai in the Transporter and other roles. (Even then Hollywood folied in an alarm function ... )

I read somewhere that in movies and tv, when a company pays for submissive advertising within the movie or tv show, then they will use a gen provided by the watch/bag/dress/other company,,, only other cases is when the actor himself uses his own property........

And when the companies choose not to pay for the submissive advertising then that is when the props (reps) come into play.... I read that the reason for this is beacuse of the IP laws in play......

I also read that this only applied to physical items,,, the use of the brand names themselves as dialogue is not an issue....

Just a question, Do they use a lot of reps in movies? You would think watch companies would bend over backwards for the product placement and donate a gen.

This has been covered before, The Gens are only used in the close ups. Can you imagine what would happen if the stunt guys and the body doubles and the long shot guys were all given Gens as well!! (Hey, I'll be their props guy!!)
