Hello everyone, I have been lurking for a bit. I’m just wondering if someone could help point me in the right direction for someone that could build me a super Franken rose gold date just Wimbledon… want gen bezel and crystal, maybe dial… any suggestions? Or should I consider other parts instead of gen?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hello and WELCOME from the official RWI reception desk!

You are receiving this introduction because you either posted in the "new members say hi" section or —for the first time(s)— elsewhere. In the latter case, consider introducing yourself in the aforementioned section.

If you haven't already, please make sure to read all relevant sticky threads. They contain important and essential information such as the forum rules! Most importantly the sales rules, because you will NOT yet be eligible / allowed to sell unless you meet certain criteria / are certified first.

A good starting point is this list of resources on RWI:

Please also take another look at this important sticky that you should already have seen after logging on for the first time:

This quick anti-fraud guide is essential if you are about to order from a dealer for the first time:

If you need any further assistance, feel free to contact me or @Feefo!

We will gladly help, but please allow some time for PM responses as we have lifes outside of RWI!

You have 3 options for a project:

- If you have watchmaking skills, you can source the parts and do it yourself.

- Some specialized TDs offer modifications when buying a new watch.

- And lastly, and probably the route that most take for modded / frankened watches: pick a modder / watchmaker who'll do it for you. There are basically 2 kinds, the semi-professional / private modders and the full-time pros. Both types can be found on RWI when using the search function... But be warned ahead. They all are extremely busy and have tight schedules. It's not unheard of for them to not accept new projects until further notice or, if they do, to wait up to a year or more for your project to be finished. So bring a lot of time and patience if you decide to explore that avenue...

PS: the longer wait times are of course for the more complex projects, obviously to get a crystal replaced is not going to take months. But then again, that's not really considered frankening a watch and your local rep-friendly watchmaker should be able to do it... You don't need a pro modder for simple part replacements.

Hi buddy @DRILTLIL

Out of the box, I will suggest you get the VSF Factory Datejust Wimbledon which is by far about the best one out of the box

Then you can source the parts slowly and mod along the way.

There are quite a lot of modders in here and parts should be able to source.

Cheers

Thanks for the advice! How are are some of these to do yourself, like bezel, crystal and dial?

Hi buddy

I dont get what your question is.

Some people do mod the rep watches with genuine parts.

Is there a list of common mods or popular gen parts that people tend to start with?

It varies from level to level of accuracy and model. Quite frankly it's almost impossible to list out every mod for every watch, and people's tastes vary on what they can tolerate. Most "gen" part mods are diminishing in returns quite frankly. Everything here is also my opinion.

I only discuss Rolex here, since Rolex replicas are at the level where they can take gen parts easily.

Most common mods are a swap for gen crystal.

Then generally dial/hands for the white gold nature of the markers and the hands.

If you've done all that might as well get a date wheel.

But then after that it's all up to you. I mean you can swap the bezel insert, crown, etc, Personal preference.

In my eyes :

For Submariner

Gen Crystal > Dial/Hands/Datewheel Overlay > Bezel Insert -> others

For the Datejust, see it's different, it would be

Gen Crystal > White Gold Bezel > Dial/Hands/Datewheel Overlay -> others

You can also see why I say in the other post it's a personal thing. Some people may compare the gen and rep insert and think that $1500 for a gen bezel insert isn't worth it, while some think otherwise. Some people may want to swap the date wheel but are fine with the dial. etc. Which is why I told you to get the replica in hand and decide what "bothers" you about the replica before deciding to mod it.

At this stage in the replica game, most Rolex replicas are already good enough out of the box, use a simple crystal swap and you're done. Enjoy it.

Thank you so much!! I've also seen a lot of people talk about getting their bezel modded?
