The previous copy was just a dolled up 2836 clone with some red stickers on some wheels and was pretty poor. Yes this might cut corners on some aspects, but these arn't that important. Main running gear of a reliable swiss clone movement along with 1:1 dimension specs of a 3135 would keep most of us happy for years.

Why do we need a correct or cloned movement on a closed back watch? Oh yeah, so we can sell them for a healthy profit as gens. And so the dealers can charge us more.

Only reason I can see. If you can get a 28k sweep with asian eta, why bother?

As stated earlier, so you can fit it in a gen case for one and secondly so you can have a case with the correct crown height and also it would be nice to use a gen dial with out whacking off feet. (those are my reasons)

I guess another way to look at this is that many of us sweat over every minute detail, and this is one of the details. A rep is only good enough when you can not tell the difference... anything less than perfection still can be improved, no?

Agree.

If you can't see it, functionality and price are the main factors for a movement.
In particular I wonder why they make such a fuss of Rolex watches when they do not provide any kind of decent engravings on display case-back Patek reps.

To me it's simply a preferrence of what "you" know is "under the hood.( that, and to more easily use gen parts, as stated earlier.)
Why spend thousands on chrome alternators, P/S pumps, brackets, A/C compressor motors, surpetine belt and drive gears, etc., mount them to a 550hp "383 stroker" and then close the solid, cowl inducted hood ?? Can't see it then..............but you know it's there :)

It will only be a game changer if its dimensions are true 1:1 gen spec. But that would mean:

1: Straight drop in to both vintage and modern cases designed for gen movement (Yuki/J&W/Phong) ergo no movement spacer needed (yay!).
2: Gen dial and hands without modifications
3: Stem height issues with Rolex reps for crown position would be fixed
4: No more wokky rehauts due to gen dial size

But would also mean:

1: Current rep dials and hands meant for 21j/ETA would no longer fit
2: Low availability of movement parts if there is issues
3: ehm, struggling for negatives actually :p

Dear Bonesey
I’m really taken by this post
It is a true demonstration of Rolex erudition!!

Your missing the point. And you can always pop the hood to show your buddies your engine. Are you going to remove the back of you rollie to show someone the movement?

"Its a real sub! Look, Ill even take the back off and show you!"

Also, Im not sure I understand the whole adding gen parts to an asian movement. Your going to spend $500 on a gear to install it in a $20 asian movement? Look, I get it for open back watches, and I understand the whole accuracy thing (Im no noob), But if your really wanting to spend money on an asian copy movement to add gen parts to it why not just find a nice pre-owned gen sub? And yes, I understand the crown postion and dial issues and such. At some point though, by a gen. Enjoy the reps for what they are. :)

And dont kid yourselves, these types of movements arent being made for us, theyre being made to scam the unknowing people of the world. There are sites out there that will sell a TON of these not as gens, but as overpriced reps for $900 or more.

Almost $400 and the crown guards are still wrong, the crystal height is wrong, the pearl is bad, the bezel insert doesnt sit low enough, what the hell? Fix those problems first. Cause who cares what movement is in it with all the other flaws.
Its the same sub we've had for years, why dont they address the FLAWS YOU CAN SEE.

I would buy this solely based on the fact there may no longer be anymore datewheel overlay issues.

This does make things a bit more complicated.

It would be nice if the Gen dial can be used witout loping off the dial feet!
