I'm in the market for a pam crown as well.
What are the differences between the palp and DSN's?
Palp is about $53 and DSN's is $35...
Some say the DSN's are more difficult to install??
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
From my study of crown and CG, they must be in a match proportional. I never experience Palp but for DVN, I install it once. Actaully the crown will insert into a tube. The tube installed into the case. The generic case is different on the diameter of hole on the case. For my experience, the hole is larger than DVN tube. But bobola told me that his experience is smaller. So for my case, it is easier for me to have a larger hole. I just wrap the shim plate around the tube and put some glue and seal it. After that install the crown just normally.
The matching of crown and CG is the most important. FF used to measure and confirm in RWI that the gen crown is 1.9 mm. The same confirmation is also on 2 of gen crown posted in eBay.
The important point is the CG. THe gen crown will seat with gap somewhat of 0.3 mm from case. (This is from analysis, not measurement) Then with the crown thickness of 1.9 mm. Then the gap between the crown and crown guard will be somewhat of 1.9 mm more or less (this is from my observation from photos) These all combinations make the proportional that make crown look thick. I did that with my PAM61 that I got crown from DVN. The photo below show the same case and CG. But the left is with DVN 2 mm crown ( I meaure it). The right is ugly rep crown.
From this angle the crown and CG look not bad at all.
But from this angle the gap between crown and CG still looked quite large gap and does not look as good as it should be
Only thing is DVN crown is a little doll. I may try to polish it later on if it will be more shiny to match the case and CG.
Currently I have grind down the CG of this watch for 0.2 mm more. This is to reduce the gap between crown and CG more. I think it looks somehow better. I took photos and could not find it.
For me the crown with thickness of 2.1 is to compensate the gap between crown and CG as the rep CG is not correct. This will make it look thick on crown. The crown can seat near the case by file of the stem. So pull off the crown to set time, it needs just about 1.5-1.7 mm distance. Therefore gap of 1.8-1.9 is enough as I did on mine. Now I am thinking of grind down the CG on other rep with SS case to see the result instead of install 2.1 crown. If I can do this successfully, will give information on rep mod later on.
Note: to grind down the CG, it is not possible to do by hand. It must be done by grinding machine. So don't risk to do by hand.
Cheers.
