I ordered some Panatime spring screws last weekend and they just arrived. I've been using the regular screw in posts and tubes for years but over time my very sharp Bergeon screwdriver has created some micro-scratches on my lugs when it slips. I've also been concerned about stripping out the lug threads over time through repeated strap changes. I have no idea how well rep lug threads can take the abuse vs. gen lug threads. Last thing is a handful of times over the years I've had screws back out on me while out and I've had to use my fingernail to tighten them back down until I got back home to properly tighten them down with a screwdriver. I figured these spring screws would help with all 3 issues while keeping the classic slot head look of the screws.
First thing I noticed is that these spring screws are very thick. I just gave them a test run on a 24mm Nero strap. I no longer need to use tubes with the strap. These spring screws are the same thickness as tubes so slide right on into the strap with a very snug fit. Speed wise I think I spend the same amount of time unscrewing the old screws vs. using a Bergeon spring bar tool on these to make the strap changes. I usually just unscrew right in my hand with the regular screws. With these and using the spring bar tool I lay the watch on it's side on a Selvyt cloth to push the pin through. Then to attach a new strap I lay it face down on the cloth and push the pin in from the back so any potential scratches happen to the back of the lug where they won't be seen while wearing the watch instead of the front. Maybe I'll speed up once I get more comfortable with these.
Has anyone else switched to spring screws? Any concerns using these vs. the regular screws?
