Hello all,
Today I walked into a local mall-chain watch repair store and learned that the repair man who was working 6-days a week in the back of the store making low-wage was a former watchmaker in China with over 35 years of experience. I asked him a few questions about movements, lume, etc. and being the opportunist that I am, slid him my business card and asked if he would like to meet for lunch to discuss watchmaking. He happily accepted.
Aside from asking him if he would be willing to do repairs, modifications, and assembly on reps (which he was more than happy to do) I also asked him if he would be willing to give me "lessons" in watchmaking. What we ended up agreeing was that he would teach me 1-2hr lessons every Sunday on the art of watchmaking, and I of course would pay him by the lesson.
I'm going to assess the quality of his work first before I begin to recommend him to folks on the forums; however as a perfectionist myself I hope to develop my watchmaking skills good enough to provide certain services in the future as well.
Be on the lookout in the distant future for the limited "RO" Sub-C builds
