What if this guy needs quarters for parking/laundry and can't go to the bank because he gets out of work too late and his wife is a dumb lazy smutt that won't do a damn thing she's told? And even if she did do what she's told, she'll end up coming home with dimes... wtf is up with that... in fact I wouldn't be surprised if his wife came back with magical beans. Seriously, they should get a divorce.

i sometimes go to work in my pink tutu and steel-toed boots and stand next to the watercooler w/ a little jar and a sign that says $0.25 for a peek. then if someone drops in a quarter, i flash them. it doesn't really cost me anything (i've no 'cents' of decency), but i still like to charge a quarter. n with the bailout funds that came in, my bonus came out to be $650,000,000,000,000,000,000.25. so maybe i don't need the change, i dunno...

Either way you've got my quarter!

that's not as bad as one of the temporary female workers in my office taking out my coffee creamer in front of me, using some and offering me some of my own coffee creamer. i declined and she told it's there for everyone to use. she didn't make it through the day and i had her temp agency pull her from her assignment to our office.

the grapefut guy has not done nothing wrong ... no harm no foul. you could not go to the grocery store and get a grapefruit for 25cents -- fresh off the tree to boot!

I have this trick with temp workers I do.
I secretly turn the radio to the country station and blame it on them.
They're temps, so they play it cool, like..."no really, I think I seen Richard by the radio earlier , it wasn't me"

I guess I don't see the point of bringing in free food for people to enjoy, but then charging them for it or even asking for anything.
It would be no different then me bringing in brownies or soda and asking them to pay for it.

I have brought in boxes of donuts and coffee with cups, a few boxes of pizza, and left them in the break room and walked off with no sign or care that I got paid back for it. It's called a good gesture for a reason.
At one point I went to a farm and got a big bag full of apples, I brought them into work, left them in the break room and left. Again, a sign of good intentions and a good gesture, not a meaning to make a profit or compensation of any kind.
Free is free, and when you leave food in an open area for example, for others to take, it doesn't mean you should expect anything from anyone, not even the hope you will receive something in return. It's a kindness thing and you should not expect to be compensated for your kindness in any way monetarily or in any other form.

That would be like me, expecting the Big Brothers and Sisters of Arizona to compensate me for my kindness and giving to their institution for 10+ years. Simply stated, I don't!! I do acts of kindness and good gestures, because deep in my heart, it's the right thing to do and it pleases me to see the enjoyment and happiness of others who may have not otherwise been able to get that at one point or another. Do I do this everyday? No, I don't, however when I do, I never once expect anything in return, EVER.

I guess, I'm one of the rare ones who understands the true meaning of good gestures and kindness. 8)

There's a difference, at my workplace a dozen doughnuts or muffins are bought in quite regulary, as a sign of someones birthday or for no reason at all, just a gesture to those you work with. Then's there's the eggs, those damn eggs.
I'm kidding.
But I do believe they are two separate things.

Considering that it cost him a couple hundred grand to buy the house with the fruit trees (not to mention the ongoing taxes), that fruit is hardly 'free'.

And who knows, maybe he's putting the money in his daughter's piggy bank for her college fund.

i guess some people are just cheap. i work at an animal hospital and we have our own starbucks coffee machine, which the owner rents for a few hundred dollars a month. and then she decides she needs to cut back on cost because its been a bit slow, and decides to stop ordering cups! she made a memo that if anyone wants coffee they have to bring their own mug! cmon! thats only gonna save her like 20 bucks a month! she should stop ordering starbucks coffee for that machine and save more. and she also made a memo that when we wash our hands no need to use 3 sheets of paper to dry our hands, 1 sheet is more than enough. tight b**ch

Wow this tread has gone far beyond what I have seen. From grapefruits to eggs to emptying toilet rolls!!! I can relate to all this as these are thing that happen in the office everyday!!
