It costs less than a set of earings, or a trip to play 18 holes
So, buy a piece, get a piece

That is incredibly frustrating! My wife's attitude is "you already have 5 watches, why do you need any more?"

Yep, Same here. Hard to explain our addiction but all wife sees is $$'s. Tried the saving money on gens bit but the wife said a Casio tells good time.:GEEK:

Best way is to ask for forgiveness than permission and then duck!:cute:

For me it's about the look of the watch. I like that there are homage and lookalikes from Seiko and Citizen, but somehow they don’t quite hit the spot.

When the watch is repped so accurately that it just looks like the real thing, it does show that the high price tags on some of the Gens (not all) are not always logical. Of course Gen watch prices buy you the real thing but you also pay for the advertising for all their ambassadors and their ambassadors also make a few hundred more times my annual salary. I feel a little less bad buying the rep. The watch companies are not starving and I’m not trying to pass it off as a Gen anyway so I wouldn’t be lying about the watch.

If you look at the bigger picture, there have been cheaper cars that mimic much more expensive cars in shape and lines and sure the original designers may be upset at the blatant copying but that’s life. Take the VW DSG dual clutch gearbox for example. How many car makers now offer a dual clutch gearbox? Are the others just fine because they stuck a different label on their technology? At the end of the day the consumer is just happy there is a choice.

If all reasoning fails tell your wife you’re trying the watch on for size and feel and look to see if you still like it before you aspire to a gen. You can’t afford the real one anyway but it’s something you aspire to. That wouldn’t be a lie either. ;)

Buy her a ceramic j12!!

Bad idea, if she's that opposed she will not wear it and be pissed you didnt buy a real one.

Buy an expensive gen... then tell her she needs to cut back because of the huge outlay of money. Then she will appreciate the value of a rep.

I just got home from watching ufc at a friends house, he's making good money and wants to buy a watch because all his peers have 1-2k watches. So we talked about the merits of gens, and I showed him some options for reps. Now he wants 3-5 reps and will spend less then he budgeted for 1 gen he didn't really watch and will have something to wear with a suit, jeans, at the beach, and to the gym. And when its time to need service throw away and buy 3 more compared to a gen service price.

I agree with Supermanx. buy a Gen and then moan about how much it costs. guilt trip and then go on and on about how the rep will be more easily replaceable.

I used to buy gens but then I stopped and started buying reps... the wife was happy for a while cause she does not know I am now buying triple the number of reps per gen and that super reps dun go for a 100 RMB, but shes always paranoid that I will get ripped off by some shady guy on the internet.

Well, even though I (we) can afford the gen versions of my watches, we don't live like we do, but luckily she doesn't really bat an eye about my hobby. Just like she didn't bat an eye when I came home one day riding a Suzuki Bandit (motorcycle). I even said that I wanted to sell it cuz I 'm not riding it anymore, but she urged me to keep it. What a wife, eh?!!???

Just don't show her Briet and don't tell her that your noob is a rep. nor tell her how much the gen Sub is worth. They don't know these things.

LOL. I still remember a while back before I discover this forum and fine out a lot more detail about reps, I brought a 007 omega rep for my wife. One of our friend who's a collection my wife to take a look at the watch without knowing it's a rep. When my wife got it back, she noticed that the seahorse on the back casing fell off since it was one a metal plate glued to the back casing! 8-D

She totally freaked out and swear never wears one again. She's totally against reps watches, purses, etc. Basically her thought like many of your spouses are that if you can't afford it, don't wear it or carry it.

She subsequently bought a gen Omega 007 and is building on her collection of gen LV purses.

Lo and behold, she recently noticed my first post RWI purchase of a Ploprof V1 and could not believe the gen like quality and feel of the watch but of course she still insists that I better not get her one coz if that horrible incident happens again, our friends will think all of our gens are fakes!

One good thing is that I am buying watches that I can somewhat afford if I were to get the gen and our lifestyle is such that most won't suspect I am not wearing a gen.

Now the kicker ..... my wife just ask me to look for a nice rep Rolex but not too expensive of course for her sort of for fun coz she really doesn't want to spend thousand on a watch as oppose to a handbag! I think me looking at rep forums all day and promoting the rep hobby is slowing winning her over .... and of course the excellent quality of some of the super subs help too!

Sorry for the long winded story.

So funny as all of us have had this situation...

Rule 1 : Never tell the right price of the reps (mods, etc...)
Rule 2 : Buy some reps (quartz ones) for her if she likes the watches...
Rule 3 : Choose to receive the watch at work is fine too...
Rule 4 : Buy a lot of reps and then she will be lost....

Good luck...But my wife now gave up to try to know what I'm doing with my reps...

I get a text message everytime a package arrives at our house saying 'is this another watch!!'. I need to buy a 2nd house to get my watches delivered to.
