So I got my first replica in today, a Breitling I got from BMW in the member sales...thanks again BMW :) . So I guess after getting it in my wife googled the watch brand for actual prices and then got it in her to decide to tell me how disapproving she is of the replicas and how it makes her feel like we are cheap and liars. Which turned into her telling me I can't wear it when I go anywhere with her because she doesn't want our friends and family to think I'm so Liar with a fake watch. Whic then turned into her saying I cannot order anymore replica watches...hmmm, I think she is going to be in for a surprise when I get my noobmariner in next week lol. Anyone else out there have disapproving spouses of this hobby. The only brands she really knows are Breitling and Rolex so I guess I'll switch to watches she doesn't know....

My wife was happy I stopped buying 3-5k gen watches. She doesn't like when i buy 4 or 5 at a time but its still cheap compared to 1 gen.

My wife isn't thrilled, but like Super said, she would rather have me buy these than GENS like I have before. I'll never forget the look on her face when we were dating and I bought a Breitling Bentley. She asked how much it was and I told her $8k. She almost fainted ! LMAO

Just pick up a replica LV purse for her and tell her its a gen. That'll keep her quiet. As for your Noob, tell her that's a gen too. You picked it up at a police auction where nobody bid on it except you so you got lucky.

I think her thing is we can't actually afford a watch that cost like $5,000, so she thinks its stupid that I have it. She told me to go buy a real watch in our price range ($750-$900) and get rid of the replicas. I guess in a sense we are trying to foll some people but to be honest there are watches I love and have loved for years that I cannot buy for $6000 so I don't mind the replica. I'm the kind of person who will not try to act like its real, if someone asks me if its a fake I'd be like "yep, but I love it"....

Lol, that was one of her things.. she said you don't see me buying fake purses...She actually has about 4 or 5 gen coach purses. I told her yeah but a gen purse is $350, a gen watch is $6,000. theres a difference. A good replica is as much as a gen coach purse lol

My wife actually likes the idea and loves my watches, especially when I tell her that the real watch costs $5K and the one that I am wearing costs only $300. She loves the feel , look, and the weight of the watches. Besides, it's a whole lot less than buying keyboards, electronics, mixers, speakers, and high end stereo equipment, so she hopes that I stick to watches. For those of you who are married, you know what I mean by the statement, "When she's happy, I'm happy, but when she's not, no one is."

Yep, that's where I'm at right not lol. So unless I get her to stop caring my new hobby of replicas will be short lived and its back to Citizens for me lol.

The way I explained it to her is " we are saving money " :)

She has Hermes, LV, Gucci bags. I just got her a $1400 Gucci bag for Xmas. So buy purchasing REP watches I'm keeping myself entertained and satisfied at pennies on the dollar !

I have my reps shipped to work, easier at home that way :p
She don´t mind the reps, but would rip my head off if she knew the costs of a full on mod "AR. lume, swapping movements, straps and custom made parts..."
That part of the hobby I keep a very low profile about haha!

Reps is one thing, but imagine me "sneaking" in my new 23 kilo Integra hometheater amplifier and she´s like "what is THAT THING doing here???" Uuuum yea I forgot to mention I got it the other day but the sound is pretty amazing :picard:

Tip of the day: Stick to buy only the reps you REALLY want and 1 at a time, and she will relax about it when she see´s your happy face, and finally always cut the price by 50% haha!

Happy rep collecting mate.

That is incredibly frustrating! My wife's attitude is "you already have 5 watches, why do you need any more?" and doesn't want me spending too much money. That's reasonable, but how do I explain that the first 5 reps I bought are basically garbage, and I want to get some decent ones?

Personally I wouldn't tolerate my wife telling me not to wear something, I would just wear it anyway. How would she like it if you told her that you didn't like her wearing her Coach bags, because it seemed ostentatious? Or not to wear make-up because it was immodest. Those are all arbitrary restrictions on the other person.

Think of her as the Replica Taliban, and you're the Replica Allied Forces :)

My wife lets me do whatever I want... she just tells me when to do it.
However, I have liberally interpreted that policy, on occasion.

there is nothing that is a lie about a rep watch. if it looks like something much more expensive, that is on the viewer. you did nothing but wear it. if you tell people it is gen and not a rep that is a lie. simply wearing it, is not. what happens in another persons mind as nothing to do with you.

Some MrNemo advice:

Strategy 1:
Wife: "You got something in the mail."
Me: "Oh cool! It is my new watch! Check it out!"
Wife: "Oh no."
Me: "Yeah, I sold/traded one of my watches for it."

Strategy 2:
Wife: "Is that a new watch?"
Me: "No! I've had this one forever, jeez. I just never wear it."

Strategy 3:
Wife: "Is that a new watch?"
Me: .................
Me:.............. hold on... I'm uh... I'm working right now.
::wait 5 minutes and the watch is forgotten::
