Probably in the early 2000's did I first ever notice that you could buy high end watches that weren't in the pages of the Argos catalogues!
First time I saw a watch and thought 'that's nice, I'd like to wear one of those' was on the wrist of Mr Pierce Brosnan in the world is not enough.
So a couple of years and reps later and having experienced the closed factory smp, I finally went to an ad in a lovely little Yorkshire village and got myself the omega smp 2541 Quartz.
Since then I have bought and flipped so many omegas and a couple of Rolex and only last year did I stop to take stock at what I'd lost and decided to start re collecting my old 'bond' watches, the ones that made me fall in love with watches.
It started with a wedding present from my wife last year, hearing me talk a lot of my regret at selling my no date sub, she only blooming well got me one! down to the very year and model I yearned for. I spruced this up with a brand new bracelet and bezel insert and it's absolutely amazing.
The 14060m D serial from 2006. My grail and altogether favourite Watch of all time. Not exactly a bond Watch...but a descendant of the original!
So then I wanted to get back my first love, the smp Quartz, perfect pick up and go beater to accompany the submariner as first seen in Goldeneye. I found a pristine example from 2005 and that's now a keeper too.
My final fling was always with the planet oceans, at first when I saw the set pictures in filming of casino royale I was sad the blue smp had been replaced with a big faced rubber strap thing, but I've grown to love the watch. I got a great deal on a limited edition casino royale planet ocean 2907.50.91 in 2006, but for some mad reason I sold it - that mad reason is the aforementioned Rolex no date sub! So I can forgive myself for that flip!
I have had countless planet ocean frankens ever since in various shapes and sizes, 45mm, 42mm, orange, black bezel, orange numerals etc etc.
So my recent purchase of sunnydales franken upo with gen dial, hands, bezel and crystal and rubber strap will hopefully scratch my planet ocean itch for good.
My wish list now only includes the master 300 spectre watch and I don't like it enough to drop £6000 on it but enough to invest in a v6f and gen omega nato so that's the plan for the new year.
Last on the wish list is a non Bond watch, the omega speedmaster and that will be a gen moonwatch full size and I aim to secure that for my next big birthday which is looming!
For now though I'm not sure which Watch to wear as I literally love them all!
