About 3 years ago I created a threas about the 7005-8030 MACV-SOG.
I wrote about the history of the MACV-SOG watches there so I won't repeat it here.
The watch issued to the MACV-SOG just before the 7005-8030 was the 6119-8100 ... a really nice watch too with a "SEIKO 5" sunburst dial and a clipped cadeback.
Early 2023 I had the opportunity to buy a nice civilian issue of the 6119-8100, with a working 6119 movement.
The caseback was a "clip" one as it should be but it was marked 6119-8020 and, of course, the dial was not a military one.
At that time I didn't had no idea on how I could make a dark grey sunburst 6119-8100 dial ... so I kept it "for a future build".
But the future sometimes arrives faster than we think.
A few days ago, a collector asked me if I could print a 6119-8100 dial, and since I've acquired some new methods since 2022, I decided to give it a try.
And here I am, at the very beginning of the dial manufacturing process.
STEP 1 :
I fisrt started with the old 6119-8020 civilian dial, marked a small dent at 3:00 and removed all markers and the steel surround on the date window ...
STEP 2 :
I had some dark grey sunburst NH35 dials and removed all dial feet as none of them fit the 6119 movement ...
STEP 3 :
I placed the original 6119 dial backwards on the NH35 dial and marked where the date window should be modified ...
STEP 4 :
I reworked the date window until the original steel surround can fit and add dial feet for the 6119 movement ...
It's just a first test so the dial feet are glued but I will try to solder it ... if I can do that without ruining the sunburst finish on the front side
STEP 5 :
I put the original steel surround in place and bingo
Here's a nice dark grey sunburst dial that fits on the 6119 movement !!!
A good starting point for a 6119-8100 MACV-SOG dial
STEP 6 :
That dial will come back in it's box and sit in my drawers until mid August.
The design for printing was finished 2 years ago so I'll print it on spare time ... making trials with both white and silver prints.
So stay tuned
If the printing process is a success I will sand down the caseback and reengrave it with the right markings then service the 6119 movement.
October 25 I will turn 66 so I hope that oldie can be on my wrist for that day.
