Second order, is it really gold plated?

I just placed my second order with jtime for:

Daytona 116506 Brown Ceramic Bezel

and

GMT-Master II 116713 LN Black Ceramic 904L Steel Wrapped Gold

The description doesn't say that the bezel is gold plated, but Li confirms that's gold plated. Should I trust on that? Its also the most expensive 116713 LN, I don't want to burn any money here.

cheers
butch

interesting... what about "Gold wrapped" ???
Gold wrapped is just a thicker gold plating.

More information about this can be found here (you could have found this very easily too by looking for it)

Gold plating doesn’t mean real gold is used in the process. It simply means the material has been treated to look like gold.
What? Is this true? If it says gold plating, that means it should be plated with actual gold. You'd be describing gold colored. Electroplating is real gold... If they're not using real gold, they're lying to you, as gold plated does not mean anything other than gold plated. It's likely that some of the "gold plated" are not actually plated with gold (for instance any VSF is absolutely not anything above 10k, therefore not real gold).

Gold wrapped is just a thicker gold plating.

How is wrapping even similar to plating? Wrapping is like applying a vinyl to your car, while plating is an electrochemical process (generally).

Take this first example off jtime's front page:

"18k rose gold plated solid 316L stainless steel case"

If it's not actually plated with 18k, then it's a lie, the definition doesn't change just because they're lying about it (if they are). If I sent my watch off to Nikz and he "gold plated" it but didn't actually use 18k gold as advertised, that would be a scam. Just like when they've claimed 904L cases in the past, if it's actually 316L that doesn't mean "oh its 316L made to look like 904L", it means they lied to you.

Is there something I'm missing?

Thought you could use some.
Wanna buy some gold plating? I’m thinking of starting a new service, I’m not going to use any electroplating or gold though, just a yellow marker, should be allowed right? It’s real 18K gold plating :)

Also funny is how BMWs response contradicts his own post in this thread:

And his entire post history of taking care of his “fake gold plated” watches. Clearly he thinks it’s real plating if he’s wiping it down every time he wears it (as claimed by himself).

You know what's REALLY funny ? Your ignorance and that you're arguing with people that know a lot more about the subject than you. Better to be educated than opinionated.

So is it real gold or not? In your post history you mention you take great care of your “gold” including wiping it down after wear. You’re doing all that work for fake gold? Why do you recommend multiple times things that apply to real gold, when you’re here claiming it’s not real gold? Seems like the fool would be you since you spent years taking care of fake gold as if it was real plating 🤣

In this very thread you’re claiming it’s real gold, and also claiming it’s not. Pretty funny. No clear answer for OP either.

@Nikz19

Gold plated means plated with actual gold, right? These guys on this thread are telling me that your claim of “real 18k plating” is false and it’s not actually real gold but colored metal.

Also is wrapping the same as plating? On this thread they claim it’s just thicker plating, but that’s not true, right? It’s an entire different process from my understanding.

Let’s see what an actual watchmaker that provides gold plating services says. He can tell us if gold plating is gold plating or gold coloring and whether wrapping is the same as plating but “thicker”. I’m going to take a gander he doesn’t want his gold plating considered as coloring metal and not real gold electroplated. I’m a customer of his, but I’m second guessing it after your and the mods comments that it’s not really gold.

After you wear a gold plated watch you should take a damp cloth with some soap and clean the bracelet of all the sweat, dead skin and oils. This will help to maintain that the gold plating will last longer without showing any wear over time. If you are going to wear a gold plated watch as a daily driver then save your money and just go with stainless.

But they’re claiming it’s not actual gold, is it? From my understanding electroplated gold is very much so real gold, not just a gold colored metal.
