Yeah, I saw similar pics afterwards, gonna give it a miss until they resolve the dial, if they ever can..

It is really not that bad except the 15.5mm of watch thickness. Dial and bezel insert are looking ok

very well, my PAM1288 arrived and here my 2 cents (briefly):

The PAM1288 has the potential to become my favourite modern PAM. (The classic PAMs are playing in a different league ;) ). It surely has some flaws but most important: I like this new glossy look in combination with the 44mm case size.

So here some topics which immediately got my attention after a few hours:

Dial:
the dial has this color fading effect. It starts at the top with dark grey and fades into black at the bottom. But this is only visible during daylight. At night it just looks black. But I think the gen has some more shiny effects when the sun shines directly at the dial. Nevertheless, this is not really a flaw for me.

Crown: it's a black rubber crown. I don't know of what material the gen crown is... Anyway, the black crown within the metal crown guard highlights it even more. Love it!

Quickchanger: the SBF has a working quickchanger.

eSteel: I heard some complaining about the "eSteel" text on the dial... well, every time when I see a "eSteel" PAM, I have to think about this "facepalm" smiley 🤦‍♂️ but to be honest: it doesn't disturb me and I don't see myself as a victim of a bad marketing strategy :sneaky:

Strap: here is my only complaint: I like the strap design. For me it matches perfectly the glossy bezel. I am not even sure, if I ever want to see a leather strap on it. But this rep strap is unfortunately not matching my wrist (17,5cm). It's far too stiff and it even hurts while wearing it because it's not softly encasing my wrist. I had a "Luna Rossa" Strap leftover, which suits the PAM1288 quite well, so at least I found a solution for that...

Just a sidenote. Here some similar PAMs in a line:

view from left: PAM1389 (47mm | PAM1288 (44mm) | PAM683 (42mm)

Summary:
I love this model, even if I see some space for improvement. But this will be definitely a "keeper" in my collection (compared to the other new releases, which I already have 1226, 1229, 1232).
The only real issue (--> strap) doesn't have to be an issue for other buyers and most will change the strap anyway.

Good to know, I ended up pulling the trigger on this one, hopefully lands in the new year, strap isn't an issue, already have one in the spare box that will work great on this.

Definitely a looker, and the size is just right. Yeah I wonder what material is the gen crown is made of. Surely it can’t be just “rubber”, and I am hesitant to have rubber parts in anything I own that is meant to be durable, whether it is a watch, a car, you name it. Rubber stiffens and crumbles over time.

Just for the sake of seeing live the possibility of going from photo 6 to photo 7, I would like to see this watch in hand! Awesome photo, thank you!
